Well it's 11:25am.Saturday, just watered the garden, so far so good (except wrestling with the water hose which I despise immensely). I'll probably be hunkering down inside for most of the remainder of the day as the temp is suppose to climb to 91. Drinking the last of the ice tea in the pitcher as I sit here typing, so better get another brew started. I'm lazy, I cold brew, takes longer but tastes just as good.

school, I far prefer the taste of cold brewed iced tea. Mine gets brewed overnight in the fridge....how's that for lazy?

Coolish weather today. Sister visiting from Vancouver and we will do some shopping today. She makes the world's best pancakes which she is contributing to a family brunch tomorrow, then visiting my parents' grave sites later in the day. We enjoy wild cranberry jam and earlier in her visit we picked cranberries and made 43 jars of jam.

Cranberry jam? Oh that sounds good. My neighbor loves to make jams, I'm going to suggest cranberry to her. She made a spread of rhubarb and raisins, said it was a recipe passed down from her mother. I haven't tried sampling that yet.

I also let my ice tea cold brew overnight. Thinking about buying another pitcher so I'll always have one in the fridge. :)

I'm going to do a little picking up when I get off of here. Been a hectic week so more then usual to pick up and put away. Tonight I am going down to watch our Grandkids while mom and dad go to a wedding. May toss some zucchini bread in the oven, too. Tomorrow is a surprise birthday party for a friend and then I am off on a 3 day trip with some church ladies. Back home on Wednesday evening. Then we leave again on Friday for the holiday weekend. Something tells me Thursday will be laundry day!! I am getting way too old for weeks like this..

Susie, I'm starting to feel the same way, it's just been a busy month. A busy summer really, and we have more guests coming from Croatia middle of Sept. I feel behind on everything.

It's foggy, drizzly this morning after three very warm days. I need to do some housework, my kitchen floor didn't feel good under bare feet this morning. A friend is having a cake/ice cream memorial open house for his mother from 2-4 this afternoon and I think we should go, even if briefly. A very nice man and he took such loving care of her with dementia these last years.

I had thought the roofer was coming to replace the cedar hip and ridge on the house this morning but it looks like he's stood me up. Again. I expected him yesterday but thought he may not want to work up there in excessive heat and didn't blame him, but no call? Cannot these people communicate better? I have a trailer in the driveway for taking the old material away. If I'd known the roofer wasn't coming I could have sent DH for a couple of loads of compost with the trailer....

I love to hear about your escapades and day to day. Glad the weather is cool somewhere. Shopping in Vancouver sounds lovely. Fresh salsa must be yummy; I will have to try making some. The past two weeks have been busy with family and friends. DGS, J, stayed with me to attend mandatory practice for cross country team and first day of high school orientation while his parents were on vacation. Up at 5 to drive to 6:00 AM practice and some days a second practice in the evening. All fun and all good. I also helped DD, D, set her classroom and took her to the head injury clinic because a computer monitor fell on her head. Luckily all is well. Also spent time with her kids while she was at work. In between I am waiting for pricing on the new kitchen and trying to be patient.

This weekend DH and I are at the river house, our second home, by ourselves. This morning we took some items over to the church for the annual yard sale which made room in the shed. I will get the house ready and plan food for Labor Day weekend when all the kids, grands, and my brother and his family come. I made the first batch of fig jam this week and there is more to come. The tomatoes have kept me busy too. I am hoping that I have a chance to sit on the dock with a glass of fresh iced tea ( you inspired me) and read if it does not get too hot. Right now it is upper 80's but does not feel too bad. This week I am subbing for the first 3 days of school and then head back to river for the weekend. It is so good to be busy.

Looks like several of us enjoy our iced tea. I am drinking some now. My fridge is always too full for a pitcher of it so I just make it by the quart jar and usually drink that up in no time. We don't have to water our gardens here, we have had rain, some about every day this week. Thanks to all that are posting, love reading about your days.

DH & I shopped the thrift store. He got a new Nike running tank top & shorts. Tupperware containers to store the dry cat food in. A few wooden coat hangers. A leather handbag, mine has a shorter strap(I paid $2.50). Then went grocery shopping.

Local hardware store is having a grilled hotdog/brat special. All proceeds go to the local elementary school. We'll eat there before we leave to go shoot the sunset @ the sunflower fields.

We have to go pick up stuff for the house. Lowe's for 2new toilets and home Depot to return a brand new bathroom faucet which was defective missing a part and pick up another one. My back went out yesterday and I am not moving very well so I don't know how much more I can do.

I just put a cranapple pie in the oven. It is a big ten inch one. After it is done then the turkey will go in and I think I am through cooking and baking for today.

I just put my water-bath canner away--it's been sitting out since I made peach jam.

I picked up younger DD at the bus stop this AM, and we'll be having our monthly family dinner tomorrow. My brother is bringing his specialty, lasagna, and I'll be making bread, dessert, and a vegetable--probably broccoli, yellow squash, peppers, onion, and cherry tomato salad. I made two batches of yummy soft caramels a couple of days ago, and I'm going to try to work some into bar cookies.

I'm taking a break while the kids are attending an opening at the local art museum, so I need to get back to work soon. : P

I'm just finishing up lunch (a warm turkey sandwich with fresh, sliced tomatoes), been cleaning the house and doing laundry. Tonight a gf and I are going out for supper and maybe a movie, but we can't find one we really want to see. Tomorrow we head to KC for two soccer games, with the perk of getting to see our oldest daughter. I love iced tea too and have a Mr. Coffee Iced Tea Maker that I love. I quit drinking regular soda, so the iced team maker has gotten a lot more use lately. Me and my dd are going to look at mattresses later, but I am shocked at how much they are these days. Yikes!!!

We went to the market this morning and I bought cucumbers and peppers to make relish. I also got 2 large eggplant for $2, for grilled vegetable sandwiches.

I've got relish 'soaking' in salt and I'll cook it up tonite.

Just came in from chatting with the landlords and I'm loaded up with kale, cherry tomatoes, a couple of Gypsy peppers and some yellow beans.

The plan was to get all my laundry caught up, including my bedding and to clean my bathroom. I got a load of laundry done, haven't touched the bedding and still have the outside of the toilet and the floor to wash in the bathroom. I did the rest of the bathroom. Did I ever mention I hate hate HATE cleaning bathrooms? Especially mine because it's sooo tiny and humid and I have too much stuff in such a small space. I did manage to take a shower and even though it's just after 5 now here, I'm in my jammies deciding when I'm going to fry up the steak and make a salad. But I'm too lazy to do either.... I think I need another coffee. :)

I have a filled weekend.

1. Saturday: Went to a quarry with a rock hound club to hunt for fossils. This quarry is about 60 miles fro my house. On the way home, stopped in at Menard's to pick up supplies for combating a woodpecker who wants to destroy my house.

2. Sunday morning: Attend the annual "Early Day Equipment Show" in the park in my town. There will be an antique car show in the morning. This won't have specialty autos from the '60s and '70s. These will be truly old ones, earlier than 1940. Maybe the Reo and Mack trucks will be there. The final drive on the Mack was a roller chain. Could be the Depression Tractor will show up. This was a kit sold bt Sears & Roebuck in the 1930s. It was a kit to assemble a crude tractor. You could buy it with or without a transmission. Typically, the owner mounted a Model T or A engine that he already had to complete the tractor.

The equipment show will have plenty of steam engines and Oil Pull tractors. A sawmill will be runnning powered by a 65 HP Case steam engine or a Keck Gonnerman. The unique feature about this show is that if an engine is capable of running, it will be operating. One year, an engine, propeller, and other parts for a Curtis Wright 1911 Pusher Airplane was for sale.

3. Patch 2 holes made by a woodpecker in second story window frames and clad over with pre-painted aluminum to strop the destructive critter. I have similar windows on both the front and back of my house, but the woodpecker is attacking only the front ones. The difference is that the front windows are flanked by rough sawn redwood batten boards. The wood pecker gets an easy grip on the rough redwood. I do not think it is looking for insects. From the evidence, its pecking out a protected place to hole up in this winter.

Dinner was a success, the kitchen is clean again, and my mother left me the uneaten cherry and strawberry pies. Cherry pie for breakfast!
