Faux Marble Bathroom Tiles
Comments (35)Hi there. I used 12x24". I got my first look at these at a RBC showroom. I ordered them through Nebraska furniture Mart near me that carried some RBC tile lines. RBC only sells to the trades I believe. Nebraska Furniture Mart special order them for me from RBC. I DYI'd the tile job. If I had it to over again I would have used a larger grout space to hide my slightly uneven lipage....See MoreI think I committed an egregious faux pas
Comments (51)I occasionally lurk, but this reminded me of an experience I had over 30 years ago. We had a pot luck for Thanksgiving at work, & one of the 'girls' brought...I can't even remember what it was. She worked in my unit, & she was temperamentai & unpredictable, so I was very aware of her sitting right beside me at the luncheon. Whatever it was was wonderful, & I praised it to her, adding 'I'd love to have the recipe'. (not that I ever, at that time of my life, cooked anything that required more than a microwave; I was just being complimentary) She looked down her nose at me & said, 'Why should I give it to you?' Some people do just have a bug up their butt, & the best way to handle them is to treat them like asbestos: stay away from them if you can, but if you can't stay away from them, at least don't stir them up. 'sour cream, cream cheese, cream, cheeses of some kind, noodles, and some some vegetables.' sounds wonderful without any more ingredients or instructions!...See Moremore countertop/backsplash conundrums- mixing quartz w/ marble bs
Comments (29)Fwiw, I just mixed faux-marble quartz (Lagoon) with a Carrera backsplash and at least in it's pre-grouted state, I'm really happy. It was hard for me to find a backsplash that worked well with the grey-ish tones of the Lagoon, mostly because my cabinets are painted taupe. Anything that "matched" the cabinets seemed too brownish for the counters. The Carrera blends the two perfectly. I think it also works because I wound up using a very small-scale herringbone pattern, so the patterns in the marble tiles are less pronounced. Fwiw, I don't see the calacutta tiles that the OP posted working with a greyish quartz that's similar to Lagoon, and I'd also be concerned about pattern overload with a subway tile. But having worried about the fake-next-to-real problem, I wanted to at least add my experience that it can be done. One of the prettiest kitchens on here, done by a pro, is GW user @kompy, who used a different marble subway with Lagoon counters, and it looks stunning....See MoreFaux marble countertops
Comments (37)happyallison, I had written a reply but went to get some pics and it disappeared. Bottom line is that I love it. The leathered finish was strongly recommended as it makes the surafce more resistant to staining and etching. I did all the tests and nothing etched or stained it. I don't know if you've read the threads started by 'Karin' (I think) who is a geologist about various stones for counters, but she suggested seeing if the stone would scratch glass. Here is what I did with the sample I had. Here is a not-so-great shot I took for someone when I just had the sample, so she could see the leathered finish, which is not perfectly smooth. This very close shot makes it looks much 'bumpier' than it is in real life. It has many soft colors in it, and in some places, almost a translucent quality. It has white, cream, taupe, tan, green and some darker brown areas. I love it with the green cabinets. In this shot, from the left edge to about the middle, you see some green. I live in Maine and it makes me think of the ocean water swirling on a beach....See Morebusymom03
