Painting the faux tile in the bathroom HELP
Comments (1)My bathroom is awful! Ugly wallpaper and pink faux tile all around-halfway up the wall. Some spots are peeling from water/moisture in the bathroom.. I am new to DIY things .. but I don't have the time or energy to rip down the faux tile (esp. because I don't know what is behind it, or what to do when tear it down) So I was thinking there has to be a way to paint it. And if there is .. should I try to sand down the areas where there is moisture damage or would that make it look worse? I just would like a different color HELP! I can't stand to look at it anymore! Thank you!...See MoreWho has kids and dogs and marble bathroom floors? xpost bathrooms
Comments (1)I Crema de marfil (sp) 12x12 tiles in my master bath. Love the looks of the floor when it was new and still do in some places. IMHO, with vanity chair, kids, dogs, cats, Make up, after shave, etc, it just did not hold up well at all in the heavy traffic areas. My daughter spilled nail polish remover and it ruined an area of the tile. The least expensive quote to repolish 80sf was $650. I'll retile with something more duable for that price than spend it on repolishing every so many years. It may work for some. It did not work for us. But it is pretty. Here are pics when it looked good...See Moremarble tile in bathroom
Comments (24)Main Line,,So because you've never heard of it, it's not possible??? I just had my marble shower floors done, so maybe you should find some marble refinishers in your area that can do more! Yes, there are marble and stone refinishers and yes, they do flooring. Can't believe you've never heard of it being done. I have a marble hex shower floor. honed. made the mistake of using the wrong cleaner and etched a large spot. my guy came out and 'sanded' it new again, back to it's honed surface. (by sanding, I mean using graduating grit sanding pads that buff and polish) It cost me $150 for a 4'X9' shower. hardly expensive. And he put a killer coat of sealer on the stone that repels the water. the difference between honing and polishing, are the polishing pads. normally for a honed surface he will do 400-600 grit pads. polishing them will use the higher grits (800-1600) . If you ever get slight scratches on your honed marble, you can take a fine grit sandpaper and 'sand' it out. If you have polished marble, it's going to take more steps to remove the scratch and polish it back to a shine. BTW, honed does not show the etching like the polished does. etching will look dull and looks more apparent next polished because you have two different sheen levels. Since honed is already 'dull', etching is not as noticeable. polished etch honed etch and you can also try this picture of floor refinisher. notice big buffing machine...See MoreContractor installed chipped carrera marble tile in my bathroom
Comments (20)Thanks to all for their comments and advice. I selected the tile but the contractor was responsible for purchasing/installing and QA/QCing it. I paid a lot for this contractor and chose them b/c because they were recommended and I had a PM supposedly but he’s turned out to not pay much attention to detail and I think has too many jobs he runs around to, so the project manager has proven to not be much of one. More like a runner and permit person. They left 6 large pieces of the tile mosaic in my backyard and garage, some with tiny nicks and others that look undamaged so I’m not sure why the undamaged ones weren’t used. I had actually selected a light grey grout for the white subway tile in my shower and this floor, so not sure why the white was used on the floor. This is my first time with a big renovation job as a homeowner, which is why I’m asking for advice because I’m inexperienced. I thought it looked beautiful with my design and was a small splurge on a small space. The tiles are from floor and decor: https://www.flooranddecor.com/stone-decoratives/carrara-thassos-hexagon-waterjet-marble-mosaic-100246065.html I’m not rich, and to me this project is the biggest expense of my life aside from the purchase of my home…this project was to make a fixer upper home I’ve lived in for 6 years finally ours. I suppose I should’ve done more research on the product but also trusted my contractor to project manage the job. Most of the work was done very well and I’m happy with it but I get the feeling that they take on too much work at a time a took advantage that I wasn’t living in the home to take their time and be messy when I wasn’t there to see things. I’ve had to fight for them just to come back and finish cleaning up the messes they’ve left. There’s a small final payment I plan to withhold, they’ve already gotten most of my money. I also chose expensive wallpaper that was installed terribly that they’re going to redo and have kind of been ignoring my other punch list items b/c I think they’re mad they have had to eat that cost, it should’ve been done right to begin with though…it seems they’re not as experienced with high end materials as both of these splurges of mine did not get executed well....See MoreBunny
