Does anybody really grow rouge Royale?
Comments (329)Wow! Okra is related to hibiscus?? I got this from seed at Renee's Gardens. The only seed that "took" and then I got this plant, and then I looked it up, and turns out it's an annual. That was a lot of work for a very few flowers... Yup -- that arbor cost me $10. Plus some sweat equity! @rosecanadian - Carol -- that's not a bench, that's my worm box. But I think I killed all the little wormies... Thanks for your good wishes, all. I am watching my Rouge Royale closeley these days. More buds coming! Such a good bloomer already, and in its first year. Diane -- you crack me up. Always. And make me think. Kristine -- I do love Huntington/Life -- but right after it blooms at least half the leaves turn yellow, so it's a bit higher maintenance than I'd like. But it's still quite young (year 2) so maybe it will have more roots soon and can support its blooms without freakingout afterwards. It is pretty and has a lovely fragrance. Okay geniuses -- totally off topic -- not even about roses! But how do I get old tea stains/deposits out of my go-to tea thermos that I take to work?...See MoreAnyone growing Royal Catchfly?
Comments (7)I found gallon pots of Black & Blue at Lowe's last week for 5.95 in the annuals section. They were in pots that said "premium annual" or something like that on the outside. You might want to try there. I haven't had good luck so far growing Black & Blue from seed but some people have. I saved seeds from my silene regia last summer and had good luck with those. Both would need to be surface sowed. I used winter sowing and put a fine layer of vermiculite over the seeds to help keep them moist. I have lots of silene seedlings but they're still sooo tiny. I saw hummingbirds going to my silene quite a bit last summer and it had a long bloom time, I think not as long as Black and Blue though. Both are very good hummingbird plants....See MoreThis Winter Mantel Is 'For The Birds' !!
Comments (11)Well Karen, I'm tickled to see your decor too. So glad you joined the party. Everything looks great! I agree it's hard when you go all out for Christmas on your mantel and don't have as much for the others. But it still looks great. So fun to see how you added the vine on your lamp to go with the birds and nest on your tea cart. That's the cleanest real bird nest I've ever seen. If all of you keep showing me cloches hopefully I'll get there one day.HA Love your bird cage. It's such a neat shape. The lg brown vase is so pretty and those birds are neat beside it. Most of your decorating will work clear into Spring if you want it to. Little Teegan is adorable with her china tea set and bunny friends. I really like the tea set up on pedestal stand too. The little bunny's blue hat looks pretty cute. I best head to bed. It's still snowing. We have at least 10" already. The news said fog and freezing rain in the morning on top of it. The snow plows couldn't keep up earlier today so it will be interesting. How's all of your weather? Stay safe and warm. It is fun when we have more to enjoy here. Punk...See Moreroyal doulton plates
