How to make cheap/free pots for your seeds(long)
Comments (14)I made about 80 or so of these paper pots and the plants seemed to do well in getting started. Started Columbine, corn, cucs, melons, peppers, tomatoes, morning glories, and a number of annual flowers. What I did not do was to open the paper up when I planted and some things just did not seem to get roots out quickly through the paper so they were delayed flowering and/or producing. The corn did remarkably well though. We left a bit of the paper showing to thwart the cutworms but I would not do this again with corn as they ended up too shallowly planted. Longer paper tubes probably would do the trick. I think I will find a taller bottle to use as a form. See this link from my blog on making the pots. Comments (32)So I have owned 3 pressure cookers. The first one was from QVC I believe and stopped working a month after warranty :\ The second was an Instant Pot. I believe it was a 6qt. I liked it but noticed it took forever to come to pressure and on certain dishes I'd get a burn notice. So during spring time I saw another 6qt Instant Pot on sale at the grocery store and got it. It was a little different than the one I had. Man what a difference. It comes to pressure so much quicker and haven't had a burn notice yet. I have a love/hate relationship with the sauté function. It's nice to have but it gets way too hot and sometimes things tend to stick. I've tried posting some "What's your favorite instant pot recipe" posts on here but unfortunately not many respond. :( I'd like some new recipes. One quick recipe you can make is with small potatoes, baby carrots and chicken (I use thighs). The recipe says to sauté the chicken but I just toss it in. Then you add a bottle of Italian salad dressing. I usually use greek dressing. It's very good and an easy recipe :) Best Instant Pot Chicken...See MoreHow often do you re-pot your potted hostas?
Comments (5)oh come on bkay.. you are one of two pot queens here ... lol ... media failure is based on drainage .. as the media compacts or breaks down ... water does not flow freely thru it ... usually defaulting to puddling.. and running down the edges .. eventually when you unpot.. you find all the roots that were in the middle.. dry rotted .. and are dead.. and all live roots are out at the edges ... with a plant in the ground.. this is when you would start seeing fairy rings ... how do you SEE that in a pot ... well.. take it out of the pot and look ... generally though.. i guess i wouldnt go more than 2 or 3 years.. depending on the quality of the media you started with ... ken...See MoreFunkyart
