Help with general design of large 13x18 kitchen

Hello everyone,

I posted my current floor plans etc in another forum seeking constructive criticism, and one thing I didn't realize I was so far off on was kitchen layout. New construction, very early in the game so we are able to change anything.

My wants:

  • Gas range-top only with ext vented hood
  • Full double-wall ovens
  • 48" wide counter-depth fridge
  • Assume the microwave will be an under-counter drawer style
  • Some seating at the main island

Pretty standard stuff. We also have a Butler's Pantry with a small sink and beverage refrigerator.

My assumption was that the layout was fine, and that the range/hood would be the "big beautiful centerpiece" of the room. Would be nice, but I don't care if it isn't.

On the plan, you can also see the cabinet area labeled as "concealed pantry cabinet". My intentions for that is to create a sort of "coffee/breakfast bar" that keeps those small appliances tucked away and able to be out of sight when not in use.

The 5x5' square in the Nook is just my current kitchen table that I had drawn in for scale.

I liked this layout before I got so many pushes to redesign it - but with the U-shape there is plenty of opportunity. Ideas/advice? Thank you in advance
