Is it too soon to start a 'Wish List' thread?
Comments (8)Hi Hey_J I've pretty much run out of room, so am starting to look hard at smalls and minis. All of the Mouse Ears sports are at the top of my list for next year. My list is short (my open space is...gone?) Commenting on your wants that I own... Aristocrat has a nice tidy shape, is somewhat slow, so good to buy a potful locally. Bright Lights for me is pretty, but slow and small. I think Heat Wave is the tet version, grows MUCH better, has better color, is one of my most favorites. Brother Ronald. Good-looking dark blue, pretty flowers if the deer don't get them. Maya Swingtime- bought it in 2005, for me it burned in only partial sun (white spots) early in the season, so I moved it to shade. Not a fast grower here. Like Sea Gulf Steam MUCH better (similar look) Deep Blue Sea- Very dark blue leaves and VERY bumpy too. Steady grower, not a big blue. Mine grows on the north side of a tree, so maybe it would be bigger with more sun, but I want the max blue. Hadspen Blue- Holds its blue all season, even in some sun, nice tidy round mound. Still popular for a reason. Kiwi Full Monty-super plant, grows well like other Striptease sports. LS Sparkle Plenty. Mine was dinky when I received it, and the critters tunnel around it. Needs to be moved. Not impressed, but it has been tortured & is a survivor. Mack the Knife-pretty, but the slugs seem to like it. They weren't a problem until the new lamium gave the slimy buggers a place to hang out. Note to self: move the lamium, or move Mack. Easier to move Mack. The lamium is out of control after one year. Montana Aureo-a must have! Keep trying! Winfield Blue-one of the bluest early on. Nice wavy leaves like Salute. For early blues, I think I like Carolina Blue better tho'--increases faster(but not wavy). ~Bunnycat...See MoreIs it too soon to start planning next year's plants?
Comments (17)@Calcat36 .. This was my first year planting & I started them from seed in February. I'm in NY & we had some nice weather in March/April, then it's been awful since.. rain, rain, rain... Out of all of my plants, I have a few that turned out pretty nice but I'm still waiting on the peppers to ripen. It's amazing they turned out ok considering all they've been through ..frozen, drowned.. etc.. and I never used a grow light while they were indoors. I'm also very limited on space both indoors and on my balcony.. but I'm looking forward to doing it all over again :) Not sure yet if I will try to overwinter one of them.. maybe my Jalapeno. Here's a photo of it taken just a few days ago.. waiting for it to turn red....See MoreZone 7 Central Virginia - Have you started any tomato seeds yet?
Comments (9)Hello Dancinglemons. How about 15 minutes West of Richmond, Va.? I recall that Snowstorm, we had, last Easter, which turned a Dining room into a Greenhouse, which caused some serious grief, around here. I lost quite a few plants, I'd raised from seed, waiting to get some real sunshine back. If you are confident and willing to keep that close watch on our weather and temps, you may set them out early, with a reasonable risk. I had the neighbors laughing, at the 18' Tomato Trees, until they got a few of the free toms. I was doing the SFG technique, with some modifications and my own Hot-rod soil mixes. Learned some valuable lessons, good and bad. Working on my second garden spot, this year, to expand my harvest and selections, to do. I'll share things, I learned, if you are interested, just contact me, via an E-Mail. Mike in Montpelier....See More1300 sq ft plan for retirees. Any comments?
Comments (17)If you are building your "forever" house, you had better be sure it meets handicapped codes....one never knows if you might end up in a wheelchair. Be sure there are NO steps....all doors are wide enough to get through in a wheelchair. I would do a walk-in shower and leave out the tub in the master bath. The toilet area does not meet requirements for turning, etc. You will need to have lever door fixtures, etc. I am disabled, so I know that your breakfast bar height would not work for me....too high to get up on bar stools...and the dining room is not very big if you do much entertaining. Also, the placement of the laundry room bothers me too...I would not like it right off of the entry. Otherwise, I don't see any glaring problems, but didn't spend a lot of time studying it. My DH is an architect and we are in the process of building our "hopefully" last house.....but be sure you will be able to maintain it, especially if one of you is left alone. Just somethings to think about~~~good luck....See Moresheloveslayouts
