Description:

This recall involves the riveted blades in Cuisinart food processors with model numbers that begin with the following: CFP-9, CFP-11, DFP-7, DFP-11, DFP-14, DLC-5, DLC-7, DLC-8, DLC-10, DLC-XP, DLC-2007, DLC-2009, DLC-2011, DLC-2014, DLC-3011, DLC-3014, EV-7, EV-10, EV-11, EV-14, KFP-7 and MP-14. The model number is located on the bottom of the food processor. The blades have four rivets and are silver-colored stainless steel and have a beige plastic center hub. Only food processors with four rivets in the blades are included in this recall. Cuisinart is printed on the front and on the bottom of the food processors.

Incidents/Injuries:

Conair has received 69 reportsof consumers finding broken pieces of the blade in processed food, including 30 reports of mouth lacerations or tooth injuries.

Remedy:

Consumers should immediately stop using the food processor’s riveted blade and contact Cuisinart for a free replacement blade.

Sold At:

Department, gourmet and specialty stores nationwide and on various websites from July 1996 through December 2015 for between $100 and $350.

The Cuisinart site was VERY slow earlier. I'll be asking for a new blade and be thankful I didn't get a mouthful of metal shards.

I tried several times yesterday, but the site just churned. I was able to access this morning and put in my request. I won't hold my breath on receiving it over the holidays, though, and will just have to re-work my cooking/baking agenda!

I read there were 8 million affected processors sold, so I was not surprised I could not get on their web site last night, and it might be a while before we all get through. I'll continue to use mine (yes, it's on the list) but will check the blade thoroughly before the next step of a recipe. It doesn't get used often.

I'll echo what Cavimum said.

Note that on Chowhound's similar thread, a user reported the blade breakage happened to him several years ago. Pictures are provided for anybody interested. (Link is here.) He also states: "you can allay your fears by examining the blade each time before and
after you use it. The cracks form on the narrow sides next to the
rivets, and if there are no cracks, you're good for that day: the
problem takes a while to get serious."

While Cavimum and I think that approach is sufficiently reassuring for our own "cooking/baking agendas" while waiting for the replacement, YMMV.

Has anyone received their replacement yet?

I have heard of some folks who have, but I have not.

I've received two email replies thanking me for my patience, but haven't yet received the replacement blade.

I received an email 10 days ago advising that my replacement blade has been "received and entered into our system." I am also still waiting.......

I had received mine just before New Years Day; my friend, who had put her request in the same time as I did, just got an email notice that hers was on the way.

Yes. Lots of folks, me included. There's a long thread on chowhound, too, where lots of folks have received theirs. I got mine a couple of days after Christmas two weeks after I called.) Unfortunately, It did not fit my 2003 model FP. Fortunately, it did fit some friends' later model so they received their replacement without even having had to apply. Cuisinart is now sending me the supposedly correct replacement.
