Tortilla Questions

Yet again, I fell prey to that foul temptress known as "Amazon Prime" and now own a nice cast iron tortilla press.

First attempt undertaken this weekend at both corn and flour tortillas and I have a question about each.

As to the corn: the recipes I found include a couple of tablespoons of oil but the recipes I found on here (Like AnnT's) do not. So oil or no oil? What impact does it have?

As to the flour, I used oil but know they are usually made with lard, something I don't think I have ever purchased. Could they be made with butter? The recipe I followed also had baking powder in it. Is it needed?

Finally, am I correct that the press really doesn't work for flour? Mine shrank right back up and I had a much easier time just rolling them out. Or was that my recipe?

I would appreciate any input from you pros!
