Has anyone used Minwax stain Red mahogany or English Chestnut

Anyone used these stains on hardwood floors? If so, can you post a picture of the

floors?

I did not use it on my floor, but I did use it on my front door, which may or may not help:
My floor is oak, and we have not changed the finish. The door is mahogany instead of oak, and so it may take the stain differently. I could show you a photo of the exterior of the door, but it is a slightly different color because we put a different stain on that side first and then tried to remove it because it was too red, and while we did remove most of the stain, there was a slight residue that makes it slightly different from the interior side. No one has really noticed until I tell them, however.

Warning about Red Mahogany ... it is RED!!!! Really RED!!! Like Irish setter red. So is the Red Chestnut.

I use it in small quantities to make a stain blend redder to blend new flooring into old, but all alone it's overwhelming.

Here's several on white oak, including the English Chestnut. It is distinctly the reddest of the patches.

Since we sell Zar, I KNOW how good this stain is...for EXACTLY this use!! (Return all your Therma*** stuff...) To ME, it's easy to control ZAR's color. * Once the stain has dried a day, I'd use any good OIL Spar-Varnish. * MINIMUM FOUR COATS. * Even FPE-Varnishes implore you to stay on top of your Poly'd "exposed woods"...meaning...stay AHEAD of the UV-damage by lightly sanding and applying a maintenance-coat every few years. * Depending on actual sun-exposure, I wouldn't let a door go 3 "off" years without a maintenance coat or 2! * If it's an East or North door, you could easily have 5 or 6 "off" years! Looking at a color chart is virtually certain *not* to give you the color you expect. Testing, including all sanding and finishing steps is the only way to come close, and even then the success rate isn't great. No matter the product employed it's not easy. I've found Minwax oil stains to be harder than most to use, preferring instead to use water or alcohol soluble dyes in several coats to "sneak up" on the desired color. It's not unusual for an amateur like me to make 20-30 test strips if I'm going for an exact match, overlapping redder or browner dyes to get the right blend. You definitely should ask your finisher to match an existing piece that's the color you want, not try to guess yourself.

With Red Oak you want to ensure you work with a colour that tones down the "salmon" colour. To 'kill' red, you need green undertones. Jacobean has green undertones. And the next thing you want to work with is a WATER BASED polyurethane. The oil based or oil modified products "amber" or turn yellow or orange ALL BY THEMSELVES. Just make sure the finish you plan on using is compatible with Minwax oil based stains. Too many times we have seen failures due to chemicals being mixed = ruined floor.

Did you know that Bona makes their own stains? It is the chemical mix of two unrelated companies that puts your project at risk. Minwax is DIY level stain (used by many professionals so not entirely bad). Bona, even their entry level product Mega, is a professional grade product. Bona takes a SERIOUS amount of knowledge to get it to work. Some of the Bona products have a working edge of 2 minutes (120 seconds...yes...I said 2 minutes and I meant it). Compare that to Minwax oil based polyurethane working edge of 45 minutes (illegal in 11 states because of HORRIBLE VOC content). You should contact Bona and ask them what they recommend for the finish you are interested in using. Do you have a photo of your existing floor? Do you know the species of wood sitting on your steps?

I have red mahogany book shelves. When we built the painters used it instead of the mahogany I requested and so I've been stuck with it.

It is a very red/orange color on my maple wood. Almost garish in the bright sunlight.

I've painstakingly stained half of my house (mahogany) interior doors with oil based Minwax Mahogany, very happy with. Now need to stain four more and finding out this color not available, only Red Mahogany in water-based, am I correct in this? Trying not to freak out, any expert suggestions on what can I do to match? Thanks so much!
