Broken skylight problem

History: I had two operable acrylic dome skylights installed in February of 2015. Within a few months, the inner layer of both domes started cracking. The network of cracks gradually spread to the point that broken pieces started falling out. Six months of repeated phone calls and emails to the company resulted in them replacing the skylights in October of 2016. They did not charge me at that time.

This week I received a bill for the replacement domes. The letter states that this is not a warranty issue because the inner layer of the dome felt "greasy": "In this case it has been determined that there is [sic] some type of internal environmental contributing factors." In other words, they're saying that the skylights completely, utterly failed because they got dirty. I'm gathering information to decide how to respond. Is there any truth behind their claim? Has anyone experienced this? Any scientist types who think this makes sense? Thanks.
