Anybody know anything about Night Terrors?
Comments (11)My grandson turned 4 in April. He started the NT exactly as you described around 3. He seemed to have more episodes when he spent the night at our house than he did at his own. One thing I noticed (since I had him sleep in my bed with me and I am a light sleeper) he always started out by snuffling his nose as if he couldn't get air, then the thrashing, then the screaming. I was convinced it was a breathing issue, although Oprah had an entire show on it and it is supposedly just a brain thing. They said on the show that you should not try to wake them up, just keep them from hurting themselves and wait it out. They don't remember it and it is NOT from a nightmare. It occurs in the stage when you are not yet dreaming. I understand how scary it is when it happens but my grandson seems to have outgrown it too. I remember thinking if I didn't know he had a good life i would think he was being abused or something. He just spent the night lately and he snuffled and thrashed a few times but never did the whole screaming thing. His mother (my daughter) has always been a sleep walker and talker. We had a heck of a time waking her up sometimes. (another bizarre thing on Oprah that day, was Sleep Eaters! People actually get up , raid the kitchen and have no memory of it-not kidding-they filmed them and they were mortified) Hang in there, but you might have a while to put up with it....See MoreDoes anybody know anything about DVR's?
Comments (8)You will still need a DVD player if you want to play DVDs, but I heartily recommend getting a DVR - it will saves you many hours that you currently waste watching commercials or watching something else until your show comes on. One of the best features is PAUSE. THe phone rings? Gotta get a snack? Potty break? Just use pause! Also - REWIND. Someone came in at the crucial time? You got distracted by a really informative KT post? Just use rewind! (Can you tell I love my DVR?)...See MoreAnybody know anything about Hi-Maize?
Comments (5)I've been using it for several months. I get mine from Honeyville Grain, and have been very pleased with the product. I add it to all baked goods for a portion of the flour used, pasta/noodles, and add it to our morning smoothie. Still experimenting with it. I made a small batch of crackers with it plus freeze-dried corn and freeze-dried shredded cheddar cheese and spices (altering a recipe found in "Cookin' with Home Storage" by Peggy Layton). They were similar in taste to Cheez-Its. I recently posted this recipe in response to altering a recipe: (Hi-Maize) Cappuccino Muffins 1 c. whole wheat flour (pastry if available - spelt flour will also work) 3/4 c. Hi-Maize 1/4 c. flaxmeal 1/4 c. agave nectar 2-1/2 t. baking powder 1 t. cinnamon 1/2 t. salt 1 c. milk 2 T. instant coffee granules 2 T. coconut oil (melted) 1 egg (room temperature) 1 t. vanilla 1/4-1/2 c. mini chocolate chips Mix dry ingredients together. Mix wet ingredients together. Add liquid ingredients to dry ingredients, mixing (by hand) only until ingredients are incorporated. Add chocolate chips. Fill a 24-muffin mini-muffin pan, sprinkle lightly with cinnamon-sugar. Bake in a preheated 350°F oven for 11-13-minutes. If you don't use cinnamon sugar on the top, they can be dusted with powdered sugar (or cinnamon- powdered sugar) after they are baked. ----------------------------------------------------- I'm all about glycemic index and glycemic load in foods, so this ingredient works very well in that division. Great for satiety - no more "munchies". There's all kinds of science on the subject you might be interested in. Just Google - Science - hi-maize resistant starch. I've also found other recipes using hi-maize on-line, besides King Arthur. -Grainlady...See MoreAnybody know anything about the stenograph.
Comments (5)Would the site linked below help? I know nothing about your particular machine, Barb...but it sounds to me like it's the ink source itself that needs some attention. If it's a ribbon...perhaps it's dried out...or stuck...as in not advancing. I've had a similar problem with an adding machine print out and discovered when I cleaned the print head that I successfully cleaned off all the ink buildup that was necessary for a dark print. Slowly...but surely...it's coming back to a readable state but it taught me a lesson...not to be so prissy about the cleanliness state of my equipment. It did, however, need a new ink source, as well. Give the stenograph site below a try. http://www.stenograph.com/...See Moreddenali2
