Need track/pendant lighting over huge island, suggestions? PICS
Comments (7)We used hanging pendants made by Roost. They only sell to wholesalers who then retail them. We bought ours locally, via our builder, from a design center so got a deal. Don't know hwat you can find in your area, but I have provided an online link below. We also used the Edison-reproduction, multi-filament bulbs they show in the pic. They are about 11 bucks each w/ shipping, but look waaaaaaay cool, esp. when dimmed, and provide all the light you need when at full power. If you go that way, order some spares. We have not had a burnout in 4 years, but we do not use them daily. Also, we did not want a track sitting across our ceiling to steal the eye away from the task lighting hanging below. There is seating for 3 on the right side of the L. Here is a link that might be useful: Roost retailer link...See MorePendant Lighting Over Island
Comments (5)At 18" apart, your lights are approximately at quarter points, so personally I think that is ideal (from a visual perspective). A friend of mine has a similar size island to yours and has her lights at quarter points. She has 12" pendants and they offer plenty of light for the entire surface. I think the size will depend on the style you select. In my previous kitchen, I had a 60" island with only one pendant centred over the sink. It was perfect for us, as we also had potlights and plenty of sunlight (3 full height windows, w/ patio door)....See MoreMini-pendant suggestions to go w/ Sausalito pendant
Comments (6)I have been leaning towards the first one. It is from Murray Feiss, Urban Renewal collection $79. I liked the second but I was also thinking about the cleaning aspect of the linen shade. I have looked at both Lowes and Home Depot and agree they both have some really nice lights. I haven't found one that is simple enough but that still has style. Murray Feiss also has another light that looks similar to a drum shade but is glass: http://www.amazon.com/Murray-Feiss-P1098GBZ-One-Light-Collection/dp/B000LS32ME What do you think of this one?...See MorePendant or no pendant lighting: Can you please help me decide?
Comments (20)Thanks for all of the input!!! It sounds like a pendant may not be in my future. I loved the idea of it but as I was looking at it more, I was worried that there might be too much going on there. I was having second thoughts and wanted to get opinions from all of you. Holly-Kay: we are planning on changing out the chandelier above the table to a bronze finish to tie in with the darker wood and fireplace things. But I see how a pendant above the sink might be too much. Snookums2: we removed the dark screens and it looks much better. I can't wait for everything to get started! I thought about tiling to the ceiling but wasn't sure since our cabs don't go to the ceiling. We are going to add a taller crown but nowhere near ceiling height. That may be the subject of another post. Nosoccermom: great idea about hanging a balloon. I don't have photoshop but maybe I could cut and paste something there and post again. Thanks for the suggestions!...See MoreOlychick
