Buying a House - should I paint the yellow interior, or leave it?

The house is basically a flip so the paint is new. Yellow was not top of mind for me and I had no doubt I was going to change it, but my mom likes the yellow color.

What is the consensus?

Congratulations on your new home.

When you are moving into a new home you need to list your priorities.

Do you have many more expenses with limited funds? (If paint is in good condition, you don't hate it & you have other large expenses, wait to paint)
Do you have furniture that coordinates with the yellow? (if not, wait until you select your furnishings then paint the best color to suit the new decor...Pick paint color LAST)
Can you tolerate the yellow for a while? If you hate it, the answer is to paint it.
It only matters what you and fellow owners like. My advice is to listen to opinions (everyone has one) but don't ask for them...it causes second guessing and stress.

Might get more advice in the Home Decorating forum .

My preference...it looks nice, but I'm not a big fan of yellow on walls. But I might live with it for a few months before deciding.

Hi liketolearn! (I hope this isn't too late!) !!! Are you having the "orange-peel" texture sprayed on walls? If so...let it dry a DAY or more, then prime on top of this texture!!! 1) ONE coat of primer is all that's needed if rolling on!! >>> Sprayed primer could use two coats-depends on operator and equipment. >>> UNLESS you were covering black or navy! Then 2 ROLLED coats of primer would be warranted. >>> It's normal for new primer on drywall to look hazy. Then, do TWO topcoats of color...even if it's white paint. >>> Main reason?? NOBODY puts on an even 1st coat...doesn't happen. Also; one film of dried color isn't very thick OR durable. Two coats evens out color-depth and toughness. 2) Same primer for walls & ceilings is fine under your LIGHT colors. Don't let your sprayed primer get TOO thin! Drywall seams are very thirsty, and may need 2 sprayed coats. 3) Use med.-gray primer under your darker colors. "Pencil-lead" gray is appropriate...then TWO paint topcoats. Leave a 5-hr. drytime between dark coats too! The additional colorant slows drytime a lot. If you're using a color that's heavy on red or magenta colorant, a THIRD topcoat can't be ruled out!! >>> This gray primer is too strong under light colors...sorry! Should I buy a stucco house and reside it?

40 years ago we bought a stucco house that was at that time about 80 years old. It was 3 stories and 5200 sq. feet. The stucco was black with carbon and age and was cracked in many places. We patched up the damaged parts and then re-painted it with latex acrylic and a large fluffy brush. Yes, it took around 20 gallons of paint because it just soaked right in but the house was still original. It was the original home of Edward Hines of Hines Lumber in Oak Park, IL. The inside of that house was full of oak woodwork/wainscotting, etc., solid oak hardwood floors, marble baths/shower and was just an incredible house in bad condition when we bought it. We restored it, sold it for twice what we paid in the 70's which was $165,000. That house is still standing, still has a stucco exterior, and recently sold for close to $1,000,000. (Great house, great suburb of Chicago and GREAT PROPERTY TAXES.

No - start by adding some artwork, lighting and other accents to break up all the brick. I would never paint natural surfaces (wood, stone, brick) that are in decent shape. It's a beautiful home - don't ruin it.

Here are 4 of the colors we have talked about in above comments..marscapone can give off the slightest tint of green...Dove Wing is a beautiful neutral white you can’t go wrong using it any space....Pale Oak is one of my favs it is still light but gives a soft warm glow..allows trim to contrast.

Paint it whatever color the person that will be living there likes.

Personally, for me, I don't care for yellow. Maybe for a sunroof it would be ok with lots of plants, but I don't find it a relaxing color to have in most of the house.

My friend who ran a child care center claimed that yellow walls make babies cry. Fact or fiction, I don't know - but I never wanted to take a chance!

My house is mostly yellow, so it seems that I like yellow. That shade of yellow I don't especially care for: it is rather too strong. But, muted yellows that are approaching a tan shade (like that seems to almost be on my monitor) can be a great backdrop for other furnishings -- if the colors are compatible.

I like yellow in theory, but have not found any that look good on my walls - they always have this greenish gray tinge that reminds me of that sickly yellow-green light the sky gets when there's a tornado coming. In other words, not pleasant!

Id leave it though, unless you really know that you dont like it. Painting is a massively huge messy nitpicky job. For weeks after you see all these spots you missed and have to futz around with it some more - hate it!
