quilted curtains? And jean rag suggestion.
Comments (5)Vicky, When my grandchildren were younger I made curtains for the room we had for a play room. We moved and the children are older with no need for a playroom so I cut the curtains as they were too short for my sewing room and just made a valance from them. The curtain is just plain pocket rod and the bottom is a row of paper pieced blocks with initials of each child and a block for their birthday. They are 6" blocks set together with 2' strips. I put a backing but no batting just in the area behind the blocks. The purpose was to cover the seams. We all like them and the children like to pick out the blocks that are especially for them. In my laundry room, I have just a valance on which I machine appliqued some random strip blocks and a piece of machine embroidery. I think your idea sounds great. Comments (29)Gillian, I think that the big blocks were cut 9", and the four patch blocks 5.5". I used 3/4" seams, so the blocks finished to 7.5". It's early, so I'm not 100% my math brain is working, but if you wanted to do 1/2" seams, I think that would be 8.5" for the big block, and 5" for four patch. Just try sewing one four patch together to be sure. --Amy...See MoreRag quilt question
Comments (7)Linda, I ran into that same ? last night when I was sewing. I did a row with the seams open, but then thought that once I got around to snipping the seams, I would be doing dbl work. So, I ended up sewing the seams to one side (top going one way, bottom the other). When you do that, you can snip all 4 seam layers at the same time....See MoreMy First Rag Quilt
Comments (11)I love the material, you did a great job. I never do curve corners only squares, so I'm no help at all. We went to a craft show this AM and a lady had totes she had make with raggedy edges. To me they were ugly because she had clipped so far apart they were not frayed very well. I know people that do this with a quilt that will be washed because it will eventually frey but I don't think a tote will be washed that much. Rosa...See Moreglassquilt
