You do want the "T" tin plated evap coil. verify with dealer. I prefer venting out the side if possible over roof venting. what are you doing about a whole house air cleaner for IAQ and protection of blower motor and evap coil? do you have any issues with ductwork system that need addressing? ductwork is often the third leg of a new installation that is often overlooked. have you considered a Carrier ext warranty? I would only use a Carrier FAD-Factory Authorized Dealer. IMO Good Luck!

Its a pretty common motor and they don't cost much at all, the thing is if you removed it is there a place you can go to get a new one? With a little luck you might find one on the net but do you really feel like waiting in a cold house till it get there. The price may be a little on the steep side,,, just how important is it though to get your heat back on "soon"?

I agree, With a 2 stage system, there won't be much difference between the 2. I would suggest the NATE dealer if for no other reason than they take the time to be educated and really, the installing dealer makes a big difference in the satisfactory outcome. They will have more resources to fall back on if they run into a question on your job, and they will also generally have a more thorough understanding of the little things about unit start up and such that can make a big difference in the long term performance of the system. This is not to say that the other sources you have mentioned may not be fine. It is just my opinion that dealers who care enough to take continuing classes and training will probably care enough to satisfy you better. As to heatpump vs AC. The advantage of a good heatpump with a low ambient control is that you can run it for heat when the outdoor temperature is around 30 or higher. A good Thermostat will automatically switch your system to furnace from heatpump based on the outdoor temperature. You are insightful enough to realize that is it usually either cool and mild, or really cold where you are. That is why the heatpump is such a good fit.

Here''s an update for anyone following the thread. The furnace has continued to run flawlessly since I posted on April 24, and it's still getting cold enough overnight that we need heat first thing in the morning. I am starting to wonder if I had some condensation or other contamination in the propane supply that just took a while to work through. I called the same HVAC company to schedule the ICL for my York Stealth central AC. I asked for a different tech, since the first one seemed to really dislike my high efficiency furnace. So another tech came out, did the work on the AC and then we looked at the furnace together. The York Stealth (also 12 years old) needed 2 pounds of R22 but was otherwise fine. He advised against doing any repairs or parts replacement on the furnace at this time. He looked at the burner and said that is was fairly corroded, and that this might explain the problems, as the corrosion can hinder the free flow of gas across the burner. The first tech had told me that if the burner needed to be replaced it was time to junk the furnace. This tech told me that replacing the burner on this furnace was easy and that it's not an expensive replacement part. He also told me that this was a good, high end unit for York and that there's no reason why I shouldn't get 20 years of service out of it, particularly since I had been maintaining it well and using a 4 inch pleated media filter. So that's where it stands. When I call to schedule the annual furnace ICL this fall they'll give me a price to swap the burner at the same time and I can decide then if I want to do it or not. Thanks to everyone who responded. I'm glad I listened to you guys instead of the first tech and didn't blow all that money on the Carrier. I'm going to spend it on having the house painted instead, which will make my wife very happy.
