I would like to get an iPhone 7 now but with next year's unit expected to be so much different (if not better), I am undecided on how to proceed.

I could continue to live with the flip phone. Or purchase a model 7. Or use the Upgrade Program instead of buying a model 7.

But I am confused about many things, including how they make it work after 6 months though. Do I pay a monthly "rent" and then on month 6, I pay an amt equal to 7 times the monthly payments? Which totals 12 months of payments?

If the above is correct, I was actually thinking of 'renting' the SE instead (since the model 8 will be here 'soon' and renting it will be cheaper than renting a 7). And then, when the Model 8 comes out, then I would switch from renting the SE to the 8. But I am not sure if the program would allow me to replace the SE and move up to the 8 (obviously paying more monthly for the 8).

Any better or cheaper options?

I suggest you talk to your present cell phone carrier and/or Apple. There are too many variables here and there could be different options and costs depending on how you go; and the upgrade programs seem to change with some frequency as well. If you rely on this forum for answers, you could end up getting committed to something that might not meet your needs, or cost more than you expected.

I recently upgraded my iPhone 6 to an iPhone 7 Plus through my carrier, T-Mobile. And the terms they offered me were different from other programs I've seen floating around. Even though the upgrade process seemed fairly straightforward, I had a couple of long discussions with their service reps to be sure I understood exactly how the process worked and how my bill would change.

Well, I just wanted to see if I had understood how things 'typically' worked. Like you, I am sure I would end up in very long discussions with reps too. Ha.

But I was told that doing it your way, getting the phone via a cell phone carrier, that gets me a locked computer and I did not want to be locked to any carrier. That way I could change carriers at will if the carrier increased prices or changed terms.

There are orchards in Tennessee, but no large ones near where I live. I have seen small plantings (10-15) trees around some of the local farms, but would be surprised to find that those growers were "experts". In any event, I don't know any experienced individual fruit growers locally. It seems to me that feedback from multiple sources, such as here on Gardenweb, is one of the best ways to get info. Another good thing is the "peer review" that goes on here. I have talked to the local extension people, but have found that the amount of helpful information from them is definitely limited. I think the combined years of experience here are probably highly useful compared to any single source with which I am familiar. As for planting the graft union right at ground level, from what I read about burying the graft unions to reduce/eliminate burr knots, I'm not sure that planting the graft unions at or just above ground level would work. I think the idea was to plant the trees so that the scion would form its own root system and eventually bypass the 111 rootstock. Has anyone else had good or bad experiences with 111 concerning burr knots? Anyone have any information about how much difference the EMLA (virus free) rootstock makes? How about the tomato ringspot virus issues?

It may be helpful to add some compost below the mulch- not much more than an inch thick and at least in a 5' diameter circle. It should be light and fluffy stuff like what forms under oak trees beneath nearly rotten leaves. This is what the mulch turns into over time and the feeder roots really go to town here. Putting it out now will speed the over all benefits of mulching. I agree that bringing in soil is not a good idea after the fact if the soil is capable of supporting tree growth. If you haven't protected the trees from weed competition you wouldn't know what your soil can do unless there's other established trees in the same soil nearby. If so and they're doing well (any non-swamp species) than your soil should be adequate. Nearby large trees can also stunt the establishment of fruit trees. If there were substantial tree roots in soil when you planted these trees than that would be the case.

Many retail outlets are indicating that it has been discontinued by the manufacturer. We have had several products like Calypso and Tourismo that were discontinued by the manufacturer, yet we were still able to get the product from distributors and the manufacturer was still listing it until all supplies had been exhausted. Check some online listings for Spectracide Triazicide and you will see that many indicate that it has been discontinued. It may also be that Spectracide has discontinued only certain sizes. Because of the whole bee toxicity thing, many products are seeing a major slowdown in retail sales and those products are being discontinued in conjunction with their lack of sales in the retail market.. I know that Bonide has completely changed the chemistry of its Fruit Tree Spray because of the phase out of carbaryl. It used to contain Captan 12%, Malathion 6%, Carbaryl .3% and a spreader sticker. Now it has a new name of Fruit Tree & Plant Guard and contains Lambda-Cyhalothrin .05%, Pyraclostrobin 3.06% and Boscalid 5,622%, yet Bonide still shows their Fruit Tree Spray listed on their web site. They discontinued the Fruit Tree Spray last year. I only know because I went to college with the regional sales rep and he told me last spring that they had discontinues it.

when you go to the windows update site choose custom and let it scan your pc, then do ONLY the ones it lists as critical updates, those that are not critical are optional and can be left alone. but you do want to do any critical updates. However as zep said if you have IE6 on your pc and you do not want to upgrade to IE7 then do not choose that one. BUT if you see critical updates that are for IE you do need to get those because whether you use IE or not if there is a security vulnerability that they put a patch out for if you do not patch that then just having the vulnerability on your pc could put you at risk. Anytime you have programs on your pc that you see security updates for you need to get those even if you never use the program, as long as it is on your pc and has a hole in it then there are those out there that can use that hole to get to you, many times from visiting a compromised website where a script was written to find and use that hole. The flash is a perfect example, that clickjacking which I had posted about a while ago uses a vulnerability in the older flash to install malware on your pc, so keeping the flash updated is pretty critical right now. And with flash you have to do the update to all browsers so if you use firefox and IE you must go get the specific updates for each one and install them. Secunia is a very beneficial tool.

You could buy an 'unlocked phone' from Apple but you will pay full price for the phone. I wouldn't do that. I'd rather finance it through Verizon (my cell carrier) and I can then update the phone a year later. I think you need to hold the phone a year, but I could be wrong.

Its really up to you. I don't know why you wouldn't just finance it through your carrier. Then you aren't laying out a ton of money. The phone is probably $800.00 or more.

I update my phone every two years. I have a 6+ which I will update when the 8 comes out. Verizon is the best carrier in my area.

There would be no reason to switch. I would rather pay more for good service than price. But I think ATT and Verizon are about the same

Sprint and the smaller carriers are terrible in terms of service in my location, Florida.

Not if you buy the phone outright. If you finance the phone you are locked to the carrier for two years. My point is it doesn't make sense to me to buy outright. Get a phone from the best carrier in your area and pay the phone off over the two years.

Visited an ATT Store and left with sticker shock after seeing monthly payments almost double! Currently, my 3 flip phones cost about $65 and if I changed one phone, spread the cost of a theoretical smartphone monthly for 2 years and used 1G data plan (cheapest), I would end up paying about $115 (taxes not included in any of this). I feel like ATT is the only winners in this.
