Sweet potato recipe using corn syrup

I want to know if anybody has a recipe where you use corn syrup instead of the brown sugar.with the sweet potatoes. I remember eating them and the syrup shiny with the butter over it. Don't want marshmallow stuff.

That sounds like an interesting recipe. I always use brown sugar, butter, a package of vanilla or butterscotch pudding, and about 2 1/2 cups of water over my sweet potatoes and bake until the syrup is like you want. If you find a recipe, post it and I will sure try it. I don't mind marshmallows on top, but I never put them on mine.

We were in need of a sweet potato recipe because Mrs. Paul's is no longer making her candied sweet potatoes; we had grown too accustomed to that convenience food. Jojoco's recipe gave us a good starting point. None of us was keen on the orange liqueur, but Jessyf's suggestions of bourbon and just a pinch of cardamom (although no OJ concentrate for us) hit the spot! The syrup cooks down over time and coats the sweet potatoes in gooey goodness. This one is a keeper! Thank you, Jojoco, for sharing!

A great place to check on substitutions for ingredients is The Cook's Thesaurus. The link below will take you to syrups (liquid sweeteners). On a personal note, I avoid high fructose corn syrup at all costs, and use that wonderful, buttery-flavored, Lyle's Golden Syrup as a substitute for light corn syrup. This is delicious from the Irondale/Whistlestop Cafe in Birmingham, al. 1 ÃÂ½ teaspoons baking powder 2 ÃÂ½ teaspoons vegetable oil 2 ÃÂ½ teaspoons melted butter 2 beaten eggs 1 ÃÂ½ cups fat free cultured buttermilk 1 ÃÂ½ cups whole milk 1 ÃÂ½ cups self- rising white cornmeal 1 ÃÂ½ cups self- rising White Lily flour Combine all ingredients and mix well. Let batter rest under refrigeration for 1-2 hours. Pour batter into a well buttered 9ÃÂ13 pan. Bake at 350 degree in convection oven for 17 to 20 minutes or until knife inserted into center comes out clean. Brush top liberally with melted butter. Can also bake in a pre-heated, cast iron skillet for a dark and crunchy bottom crust.

Sue, I've never heard of sweet potatoes made with pudding!!! I'm trying to envision the end result...

Party, you do not use milk, the pudding gives the sauce a nice flavor and you can not tell it is pudding. Just a nice syrupy glaze. My husband and kids always want a lot of the syrup on theirs. I usually use instant if I have it on hand. Be sure and use some brown sugar and butter plus water, just more water than the mix calls for milk or it would be too thick.
