What's the wattage of the mosaic mini pendant? I would think using the light that mimics your vent hood would probably look okay if the sink isn't too close to the peninsula, assuming the wattage is high enough of course. The only concern I would have is a pendant over me instead of over the sink area; might not give appropriate light. Is the vent working? If not, could you take it out? Or maybe doing two smaller recessed lights on either side of that vent (depending how big it is across your sink area) would work better; then you would have the light properly over the sink? Hope those thoughts are of some help...

Thanks---I think we are using 6" wide open shades with these, though they also make an 8" wide shade that's similar so that's an option too. I looked at it again this morning and think I would need to have the electrician move it---they're not planning to come back till we're ready them to put the outlets and switches on for final inspection, so I'm thinking I should just let this one go, and if it really becomes an issue once we're using the kitchen, worry about it then....moral of the story: post these questions before the work rather than after!! (You'd think with the number of questions I've already posed here that there wouldn't be much left to ask... ;)

I just browsed through Houzz > Small Kitchen Ideas and Photos. Putting a pendant over a sink appears to be pretty unusual; a recessed light or cabinet over the sink is much more common. But based on a few photos, I'd say the pendants were pretty small, maybe 10" in diameter. The fixtures were generally pretty discrete too, often white glass, perhaps not to distract from whatever was behind the sink (e.g., a window).
