Big change in our landscape this morning

It's all white ... and more of the white stuff coming down.

Well ... nearly all white: there was a bit of brown and gray showing, here and there, as I left home.

We're to get more of the same this afternoon and tonight.

I picked some wild grapes last night, at the end with the aid of a light at the end of a long cord, and as pelleted snow was beginning.

Loaded some squash (two kinds) and pumpkins from the barn into the car this morning, to add to the ones there from earlier, to take to the two churches where I'm involved, and put them inside. I'll pick up the ones in the village church tomorrow, and the ones at the suburban church will be there for the food pantry.

On the way to church, along a couple of the less-travelled roads there was a ridge of slush just to the right of the driving lane, as the snowplough hadn't arrived. I drove one wheel through it, as it can cause sliding toward the ditch for an unwary driver - there was one situation where someone had headed for the ditch, but recovered.

It does use more gas, and I'm somewhat concerned about adding to the pollution and global warming ... but think that adding to safety while driving is important.

Recently as I've seen people (mostly men) walking with their hands in their pockets, I've said to several, "What's this, with the hands in the pockets? Getting into practice for winter, are we?" A number agree .. and usually there's a bit of banter, which ends with a smile ... and I've often said to folks, "If you can put a smile on to someone's face where there wasn't one before ... it adds joy to the day!"

The usual reply is something akin to, "That's for sure!"
