Tonight's moon.........

is called a Super Moon and I can attest to the fact that it really is. It's lighting up my rural road like a huge street light. It's beautiful!!! The last Super Moon occurred November 1948. Tonight's moon is 30% brighter and 14% closer to earth than our usual variety.

If your skies are clear tonight...take a look. It's truly phenomenal. Our talented photographers might want to snap a few memorable shots. The next such Super Moon won't appear until November 2034.

It's bright in Tennessee also, with a tinge of gold from the smoke of forest fires in the area.

Great picture - I couldn't see it at work, however, and so I just now got to view it. Closer to the beach, the skies weren't so clear, but I took pictures through the clouds anyway. I haven't looked at them yet, but I know the images will be blurred by the clouds. A few minutes later, the moon was in clear skies. Lars

Thanks Patty! Will check into it! Love the star drapped sky, the moon.......I did smell rose fragrance in the air, have to find out which one........will report it back the rose name...... I think the fragrant roses are Intrigue and Miss All American Beauty. Beautiful scent! :-) If I see more these roses at Walmart next year, I'd buy them all! Miss All American Beauty was from Walmart, Intrigue roses were from Breck's bargain sales-5 for $19.99.

I got my students all excited to see it and we are socked in tonight. I could not be more disappointed, especially since we have the heavy cloud cover, but no rain which we desperately need. If I have to miss the eclipse, at least I should be getting a good soaking rain out of it! Sigh. Enjoy the view Annie!

Last night's moon over northern Illinois was worthy of this title. It started out quite 'rose gold' and entangled in our sycamore. The sunset Saturday night was also spectacular, with *neon* pinks and blotches of white against the clouds. It looked like something you'd see over the desert. We watched it for twenty minutes while driving north from the city on the Edens expressway.

We've had great, clear skies for several nights to admire this beautiful, big moon. I suspect I had already been put to bed before seeing the one in 1948. Don't know if I'll still be around by 2034!

One of my neighbors has a hunting Beagle and he's been carrying on a conversation with the man-in-the-moon for the last couple of hours. Doubt his owners are too happy...but he's having a wonderful time. LOL

The moon is beautiful tonight!

A super moon occurs about one in every 14th full moon. It is when the moon is at its shortest distance from Earth. 2016 has six super moons. December will also have a super moon.

However, this one is the brightest, largest and closest to earth since 1948.

Beautiful picture. For us: the largest super moon in nearly 70 years will rise early on Nov. 14, shining bright in the November night sky. I expect to get the best view from my back porch.

We are down here at Fort Morgan beach, we extended our stay so we could see it from here. Feel very fortunate that the house was available for one more night :)

Ohhh...lucky you, Janey. I don't have the slightest idea where Morgan Beach is...but I'd sure love to be there to see the visual effects of this moon. According to all I've read...tides should be both higher and lower than normal during this Super Moon period. Enjoy!

Yesterday was very overcast all day and evening. When I checked outdoors around midnight, a heavy fog had settled in, so no moon of any kind was visible here. Today so far is beautifully clear and sunny, so maybe I'll have a second chance tonight.
