hi hard to tell.. but it looks telephone poled.. probably planted too deep .... unless the mulch is hiding such ... strike one ... and you are right.. probably dont here that often enough .... the hated willow is probably sucking the water you should be giving to the conifer ... i dont know if you can save it.. but increase water to that plant.. but insure you do it properly.. water deeply thru its root zone .... and check with your finger repeatedly on that plant... to insure it gets enough to start competing ... whether or not that one can be saved.. i dont know .... i had a willow at the old house.. about 8 feet DIAMETER ... nothing under the canopy .. could compete.. in fact it was near impossible to get a shovel in the soil ... ken

The tree(s) may develop root problems and like someone told you they can potentially fall over or not have any foliage on that side or have a poor appearance. The trees will probably look fine for a few years until that mesh becomes a problem. Italian cypress and related species are drought tolerant but you can't expect them to be drought tolerant without a well developed root system. There may be natural obstacles like rocks but this isn't a natural obstacle and don't bet on it biodegrading in the soil. By the time that happens, we'll all be long gone. I'm not surprised the nurseries tell you the trees will be fine because they're trying to sell you the trees and will say whatever it takes. The people onthe internet like myself really don't know what you're trying to do because we can't see the mesh or really understand what you're talking about. But what I can say with certainty is nature doesn't always find a way.

Bummer! That's a nice looking specimen. I agree with your initial thoughts and what the other folks have mentioned. I'd trim off enough of the branches to be able to lift it back up and to not have it lean in the direction it fell, and then I'd lift it on up and really tamp down the soil. Putting a nice big rock nearby to stabilize it might help--plus it would look great too. You can just store the cuttings somewhere for several days to many weeks and then re-plant them. Good luck! i used to do roses... and all the spraying was one of the reasons i gave them up ... that and moving to an all sand property.. roses dont like sand ... lol ... since i fixated on both .... i would say.. the biggest difference.. is that trees do NOT need the heavy feeding that roses do .. and frankly.. even in my barren sand.. i NEVER fert trees... these are conifers.. but conifers are a subset of trees... and trees... once fully established... should be free range... never really needing anything ... bugs/disease aside .. but what is imperative.. is getting them ESTABLISHED ... after a transplant .. and that means getting the roots settled in and working... and that is accomplished thru deep watering.. thru the whole root mass planted.. and near drying in between ... conifers.. have a lot of needles.. to maintain..while repairing the insult ... i consider all trees... free range by year 3 ... with onoly watering in year 2.. in drought... presuming proper mulching ... i asked about potted.. because filed dug BB.. ball and burlap.. has its own set of problems.. as in cutting off too many roots ... potted stock.. on the other hand.. has its own problems of circling roots ... of which there are many old posts ... why one out of 6 failed.. who knows.. i am sure you are gardener enough.. that they should have all taken... but one didnt.. but 5 did .. so what ... it was.. most likely a stock issue... whatever it may have been ... i cant grow these.. but have not heard great things about them.. so i would definitely.. find other things.. for replacement ... i wish you luck ken
