High Index eyeglass lens question
Comments (6)I'm an optician and I sell a lot of Varilux lenses. The Varilux Physio 360 is being phased out for the newer Physio Enchanced. Both are types of progressives and both come in many different lens materials. They are both excellent progressives but there are very good progressives for less money if it's a concern. I do suggest high index lenses for you and you shouldn't have problems with these lenses as they come in high index materials. The thinnest lens you could get would be the 1.74 high index but depending on the frame and your pupil distance a 1.67 high index would be cheaper and could be only a little thicker. Do get the Crizal Avance anti refective coating, it's really outstanding and worth paying extra for. I'm glad to answer any questions....See MoreLooking for eyeglass caddy/case Instructions
Comments (9)You could use that carpenters' measuring tape technique to close it. Then you could open it by giving the seamed sides a squeeze and it would snap shut to hold your glasses in and clean when it's not squeezed. Seems to me that one of the microfiber cloths for glass would make an excellent, protective, very low-bulk choice for the center divider. And you could put a small pocket on the outside to hold another piece of the microfiber for cleaning your glasses. You'd just have to fold a piece that's a little shorter than the length in half and sew it into the bottom and two side seams when you construct the case. To do the carpenters' tape thing you'd have to add about 1 1/2 the width of the metal tape to the length of your heavyweight fabrics for a casing. Fold the casings down and sew them in place. Next you cut two pieces about 3/4" narrower than the width from the metal tape with crappy scissors (or just fold and unfold it tightly and it will snap off). Trim the corners a little and encase them in some duct tape so they're not sharp -- and be careful handling it; it can give what amounts to paper cuts on steroids if you're not paying attention. Slip the tape into each casing with the curved side facing the exterior of the case. Sew down one side pushing the tape all the way to the other side of the casing. When you turn the last side, push the tape in as far as it will go and sew past it slowly. Turn when the other directions specify....See MoreTime for new eyeglasses, what kind do you wear?
Comments (47)My glasses arrived this morning. Good news and bad news. Rob, thank you for linking Eyebuy Direct, they did a GREAT job! The good news is that my vision is crisp, clear and much better than it has been for several years, with the glasses. A real difference. The bad news is that now when I look in the mirror using the new computer glasses (I got a pair of bifocals and a pair of computer glasses) I can see every eyebrow hair, pore, and unevenly applied makeup job and what I thought was an acceptable makeup job clearly is not, so I'll be spending a tad more time applying stuff....See MoreEyeglasses - Help me with choices and etiquette?
Comments (41)Thank you all. Tina, the first pair is a solid yes-- as are the sunglasses. I still need a second pair. As for buying online-- all I am considering buying online are the frames. Frames I have already chosen locally. It's not any different from trying them on and ordering from a local shop-- except the money doesn't stay local. They are new, in original packaging etc and can be returned. That said, my glasses are ALWAYS sent out for the lenses. My lenses must be specially ground. Still, I order them through the dr office where they take the proper measurements and make the necessary adjustments. smh - yes, you and my nieces! The black glasses above aren't even in the running-- but it was the best photo showing a black frame. There are others that look better.. but I went with the one that showed the color best. 1929 - excellent point! I will start with one pair first-- just because the prescription is tricky. The Dr wanted me to start with one pair.. wait a few weeks to a month and then get the others. Annie, yes your points are all valid.. but shape isn't really a decision I am struggling with. I have had lots of input and help in choosing the frame shape. I've also been wearing glasses for as long as I can remember. Don't worry that I'll go all rogue LOL! While my style can be a touch quirky, it's basically classic with a little funk... never the other way around. Neetsie - There is a model with tortoise shell cat eye but the stems are blue. Too much like the first pair which I am definitely ordering... and they don't have them in the store. I tried them on in the spring but they sold out. The black has black stems and a tiffany blue inside the frame. Much easier to distinguish. I guess I should have shared that since I will be switching from computer/reading glasses to walking around glasses-- even to just go to the bathroom, I want them to be different and distinguishable. Even meetings will be a challenge as I will need one pair to read.. and another to see someone across the table. I am hoping I can adapt to that well enough to not need to constantly switch back and forth and distract others. I guess some would prefer the two to look similar so it wasn't obvious they were wearing two pairs glasses. I guess I can mull that around. practigal - my mom says the same thing about Costco. I haven't tried them as they are no longer convenient to me. I can always check to see if they carry the brands that have been consistently working well for me. Thank you ALL again! You are all so sweet and helpful!...See MoreUser
