How's the weather and how does your garden grow? Long.........
Comments (3)Daily weather has been strange - somewhat mild winter, lots of wind, then hot February and March with more wind and a couple of hard freezes in late April. That double whammy hurt the majority of the fruit trees and a large number of shade trees. The trees looks so strange as they struggle to rebud and leaf out. We are continuing in a severe drought so everything except the weeds are almost nonexistent. There are so many trees, some 50 years and older, that have not survived. It's sad for trees to die off, especially ones of that age and size. We can't just stick them in the ground and they grow as they do in many areas, we have to baby them for several years to get them established. I did have DH plow up the garden area. I have tomatoes and peppers in the greenhouse that need to be planted, but I'm not sure that things will do much at all, even with extensive watering - darn it. Probably should have just started greenhouse varieties, but that's no fun. The Sweet Autumn Clematis and the Malva Zebrina are the only two plants that are doing well outside. But - and yes I am going to shout - WE HAVE SOME CHANCE OF SHOWERS FOR THE NEXT 7 DAYS! Send your good thoughts and prayers this way, please. Everyone can post pictures of yards and anything else that is growing nicely and I will live vicariously through them...LOL. While I may complain about the drought, my thoughts and prayers are with the people of Oklahoma. It is almost beyond comprehension that deadly storms hit the same area two days in a row and then hit on another day just a few miles from them. Unexplainable....See MoreHow's the weather where you are?
Comments (18)We've had more than enough rain at times in the spring, and as usual, once the month of July came around the waterworks stopped, at least for a while. We had a couple nice rain showers this past week, though we could still use more. Temps have been a little lower than normal, usually mid-upper eighties for highs and seventies for lows, it's been about ten degrees cooler than usual. Hasn't been bad, unlike last year going through three months without hardly any rain to even speak of. Some of my other plants that did great last year died or were stunted from too wet a spring, and didn't bounce back well. Also, more clouds than sun in June, more sun now it's July. Karen...See MoreHow is Your Weather Today?
Comments (20)We're getting another winter storm here on the coast of NC. Getting ice, but no snow this close to the coast. Some of the counties just inland from us are getting several inches. It was starting to ice around lunchtime. I told my supervisor around 2pm that I was going home so I could get across the bridges before they iced. Good thing, because several accidents were later reported on the big bridge I use. I was planning to print something out to work on at home, but as I started back to my office the power went out. My office is delayed until 12pm tomorrow, but if things continue as they are I'll be surprised if we open....See MoreHow is Your Weather Where You Are?
Comments (18)It's 67° here now, which is a lot cooler than the 80s we had in the middle of the week. I won't go in the pool when the air temperature is below 72°, unless I have just been in the spa. We're still heating the pool to 87°, and so it feels reasonably warm, but I don't like to be cold when I get out. We've had no wind lately, and so that helps. Yesterday there was not a cloud in the sky, and so it was very pleasant while swimming on my back. Today there were a few clouds. We have 12,000' mountains just to the west of us, and so the sun sets behind them earlier than it would otherwise, and so it starts to get dark by 4:30 PM, which is depressing to me. It stays light a lot longer in Los Angeles because it is further west, and then the sun sets into the ocean instead of mountains. Forecast for tomorrow is 72° and sunny....See More
