OT - Have you heard what's coming? CPSIA
Comments (10)This has come about, the way I understand it, from the recent increase in unsafe toys and products imported from Asia, and more specifically China. It is going to just ruin more small American businesses, cottage industry and crafters who make safe products from 'natural' local resources and who cannot bear the burden of product testing for items who weren't even under suspicion and were already manufactured in compliance with already existing safety laws. The obvious place to put more restrictions is at the source of the danger, and the country who supplies the imports. All imports should be subjected to a pre-defined safety standard and bear the cost of complying with meeting them. We already have become aware of China's relunctance to work with our import inspections or allow us in country to do it at the site of manufacture........so we can't easily control that, so we 'feel better' by putting into effect a law to control 'somebody' even if they're not part of the problem. Excuse my reaction. I am a small business owner who has lived with the ever-increasing ocean of laws and quarantines when the problems in my industry have been overwhelmingly brought upon us by imports. So I watch as our ports are increasingly accepting more, and I am the one who lives with trying to contain spread of their diseases by quarantines on my stock!...See MoreWay OT: Pet lovers -- Would you intervene?
Comments (23)Well, I feel like the neighbors have our house bugged! DH came home from work last night and we were talking about the dog and suddenly the barking stopped. Then, around 9:00 PM the neighbor had a light on and was building something in the yard and the dog was out there yipping some, but at least he was, apparently, nearby. Now it is almost 9:00 AM here and NO DOG IN SIGHT. Hmmmm. How ironic that on a WORK DAY the poor thing seems to be indoors? WELL -- if that poor thing is out there endlessly again I will call animal control. Faye, you may be right -- just because they want to know who we are doesn't mean they'll tell the neighbors. We have two small dogs of our own and that's where we were afraid of retaliation. When we are gone the pups have access to the back yard -- DH said "All they'd have to do is open the gate..." Not that we have any reason to think they are THAT weird! Glass -- that is UN believable -- I just don't understand why people like that get animals. And then when they realize they don't give a care -- why they keep them. It's sick....See MoreOT: Igloo HOW did you post Drake the Bat??
Comments (15)ok igloochic and mike_r - I thought this was a SAFE forum - no BUGS or BATS!!!! :) I must admit, I am truly amazed that there is a market for those pendants!! And I am in awe of people that are confident enough of their taste and sense of style that they can get away with actually putting them in their house!!! I have so much to learn here. sigh. I'm just trying to work up the courage to use jodi_in_ca's and berryberry's Fire & Ice for a backsplash.... you know, that little bit of glass tile is just so OUT THERE!! Comments (17)OMG!!! I had that same issue last year, LOL. I bought 4 saplings (katsura, stella cherry, franklin tree, and catalpa) for our large and treeless backyard, panicked because I didn't plan first where to put them, and then just furiously dug holes, giving the katsura the prime space (it grows huge), and just sticking the others in various locations. When we leveled the front yard, we also leveled a bit of the side yard. I replanted the cherry tree there, so the katsura is in the center of our backyard, the franklin tree is in one corner about 5 feet from the fence, and the catalpa is in the other corner. DON'T do it! LOL!!!...See Moredirtygardener73
