The good, the bad, and the ugly at CRSC...
Comments (38)Several of you sweet people have asked how the foot is...bless your hearts! The Bad: Briefly, Murphy's law rules....Surgery Friday 4/20, went great, home that night. 2 days of pain and drugs, then not so bad. Check up Monday, all is well. Wednesday my left leg swelled up, achy calf, back in to dr...blood clots in my calf - boom, into the hospital. Out Saturday on Coumadin blah, blah, blah. Back into the ER at 1am Monday with several pulmonary emboli. Ambulance ride to St Cloud hospital 90 miles away for an IVC filter (Inferior Vena Cava filter) to prevent more clots to the lungs. Sprung from there Wednesday. Feel like a pin cushion from having my blood drawn so often. Helped cheer on the tree planters Saturday, couldn't help much :(. My pond is still dormant :( but I'm thinking a pond party (ha) is in order. I'm still having a hard time asking for help, and sometimes get pretty down being so helpless. The good: No pain. My achille's tendon is doing great, no more pain in my heel, calf, chest, or neck (where they put the filter in thru my jugular). Back to work today FINALLY! I have WONDERFUL parents and friends helping me with everything including sheep chores! Still planning on getting to my conference in Orlando 5/22. So I'm good to go and in another 10 days and 3 hours I hope to be weight bearing and able to walk! Thank you all for keeping me in your thoughts, I KNOW they help!!! Sarah...See MoreThe Good And The Bad Of Where You Live
Comments (42)The good: 1. Quite a few things can be grown here. Peonies, both herbaceous and trees, do well. Usually vegetables will do reasonably well also. Daylilies like it here. They are everywhere. 2. Cost of living here is not as horrendous as other areas, particularly coastal. 3. Usually rainfall is okay. The not so good: 1. tornado alley. It is the ones the weather people don't see coming that are the scarey ones. I was outside when the sirens went off only to see the thing trying to start the sustained spinning going over my driveway. 2. I think we have 6 or 7 seasons. The four usuals just repeat in random order depending on which way the wind is blowing. 3. Blackspot. very bad here; regular spraying needed. 4. Utility costs are high here. My gas and electric costs are sometimes higher than my house payment. 5. Soil quality is poor. Lots of soil amendments are needed. 6. Too many mosquitoes around my area. Mosquitoes make working in the yard a real challenge....See MoreHere's my bird's eye view
Comments (20)Thank you all for your supportive and encouraging words. I have learned so much from all of you. Cameron, I had to laugh at the "no weeds" statement. My garden is positively rampant in places with weeds. I really am slack in that department. :( I have a fothergilla planted with some hostas on one path and when I walked by this morning, I noticed the weeds were almost as tall as the hosta. Oops. Can't be arsed with pulling the suckers this morning--quickly looked the other way. Nell, you bring that truck right on up here. Carolyn and I could meet you for lunch and a day out nursery hopping. :) Then we can all come back here and pull weeds. LOL! Lorna, I have found that the hard work of gardening is my stress reliever. When things get rough, I go play in the dirt. :) Manuela, thank you so much for that wonderful compliment. Our garden is a work in progress. There are as many eyesores as there are eyecandies. But that's what gardening is all about, right? :) You guys are terrific. Thanks....See MoreKitchen window(s) with bad views
Comments (22)mairin - I love your "peek-a-boo" windows!! That's an idea I might steal! My above-the-sink window looks out across the driveway to our neighbor's house, a total of about eighteen feet. I'd be staring right into their bathroom window if they had not planted some flowering shrubs just on their side of the lot line. On the other side of my house, I have a shrub right outside my bathroom window that serves the exact same purpose. When I first started planning my remodel, a KD came by for a consult. She looked at my little sink window and said "Let's turn this into a double window." I had to laugh!! Besides eliminating two upper cabs in my small kitchen, this would just expand my view of my neighbor's side wall and bathroom window! ncamy - If you decide on a trellis, consider jasmine if you are in the right climate, such as North Carolina. Open your window a smidge, and the wonderful scent of the flowers, along with the butterflies and hummingbirds they attract, will make you forget about your neighbor's ac and garbage cans....See Moremoonie_57 (8 NC)
