TGIF - New Blooms on Friday
Comments (15)ctc - That's waht happens on this forum...one falls in love and buys the item of their passion. Done it so many times! ngraham, Fridays blooms are many more because of a very light rain, I guess (Rita, as many as you've inspired me to buy, I'm glad I've found one or two for you. lisa, that is the lovely Malaysian Marketplace: Avedon and Chris, I fell in love with Flying Trapeze and paid more for it than any other cultivar I have purchased. And I still love it! Ellie, Pink Gingham is a bloom maching with many perfect blooms. It is a shorter, but in proportion plant and so needs to be on the front of a bed. It is a true pink, rare in the heat. kay...See MoreFriday blooms - repeats
Comments (10)Thank you for the comments. Brent Ross (Cottage Gardens) intros do very good here. I love the COTTAGE CANDY and BUDDING ELEGANCE ones since they are midlates. I do notice that CC here tends to have more of a bluish tone for the watermark instead of pinkish as he describes. He also sent me GRETTA GRAPETTE which also just bloomed and bloomed here this season but much earlier than these two. They have been here 2 full seasons so I guess they like it here. The finches are so pretty and I enjoy watching them. Better I show a picture of them then the skunk I saw this morning out in the field. Definitely would need the telephoto lens for that shot LOL. Comments (13)Thanks, everybody! Of course, they don't look like this in mid-summer. Fried, is a better description for them then! SPELLBOUND has very consistent form, Bustopher. That is why I have two of them! Since I have limited space and a penchant for collecting, the fact that I have two means I really, really like it! The only problem - the thrips like it, too, mostly in the Spring. More photos soon - there are many buds ready to open. Of course, we are going to have another rainstorm tonight, which will turn some to mush!...See MoreI found a few on a chilly Friday
Comments (13)Debra, we plan on introducing three next year. Krakatoa Katie and Stumpy are two. The third one that will be introduced is Ashwood Summer Sunshine X Cactus Blossom. We have a name selected, but it is not reserved yet, so I won't mention it now. This daylily is a late bloomer with scapes over 36 inches tall, 3-4 way branching with bud count in excess of 20. It is highly pod and pollen fertile. I just wish the color was a bit brighter. We have not observed any rebloom on this one, but I think that might be understandable as late as it blooms. Maybe further south it would rebloom. This whole business of registering and introducing daylilies is a bit scary. We don't want to introduce ones that are not worth anything. But Bob says every hybridizer had to jump in and start somewhere. We hope to have a couple to introduce every year after this. Nancy...See Moreshive
