Comments (19)There is something going on with that frame on the wall above the couch. There is a handle at top center of the frame, and 4 hinges along the bottom edge of the frame. Maybe this thing opens to reveal something else. It could be a serving shelf, but I think it swings all the way down to reveal a projector, or entertainment center, or opens to a room on the other side of the wall, maybe the kitchen. The frame is deeply set into the wall, about the depth of a 2 x 4. This is no ordinary picture frame....See MoreTuesday hidden home decor.
Comments (8)I think the uncentered middle hinge was so that it would be lower than the bottom shelf, so that I could use longer screws with out the fear that they'd poke through the side of the shelf and be visible. I realized that these are older pictures, and that since then I cut a hole in the lower part of the back panel and installed a door there so I have hidden storage inside my hidden storage....See MoreMore hidden home decor
Comments (12)These aren't that rare in some places. About 15 years ago, we were on a driving vacation in Europe. The car rental co. had upgraded us to a Mercedes. which was fine with me. At one medium-sized hotel in an urban center in Germany we had reserved, there was a small driveway I pulled into to register. I asked "Where is the car park?" and was told "just pull forward into the opening, the elevator will take you down to the garage". I'm thinking, what? The "opening" was like a very tight garage portal into the building. I inspected it first- it allowed about 6 inches of leeway for each side and front/back for the car I had. Sweat streaming down my face, I pulled in carefully (which a lot of backs and forths), rolled the window down to push the down button, and took the ride down. After the platform stopped and I backed out, I found myself in a large underground lot with parking for >40 cars. And yes, the only access was this tiny elevator. We stayed there nearly a week, and I had at least one in and out each day. I got more comfortable with practice but the first time was really stressful....See MoreHidden home decor again
Comments (14)Clever, and with as close as those houses are, it wouldn't surprise me if parking space was a very valuable asset on that block. I'm just trying to remember the last time my garage was that clean though....See More- 9 years ago
