Have been going with Ibuprofen for past few days. Yesterday was NOT good. Right now not so bad but relenting and going to doctor. My primary care isn't even there today (Monday) so starting at one of those "urgent care" places affiliated with hospital/doctors.

Seriously, I'm so sorry about your back and hope that you can get some relief. I've had my share of back problems, but nothing serious. Hope you're better soon.

If you are going to see your doctor, ask for torodol. It's like ibuprofen on steroids. It used to come in an oral version which I took for a sprained back. Otherwise they could give you an injection of it. It's an nsaid, non narcotic. That movie sounds really funny, I might have to check it out. Hope you feel better!

I've seen that movie. It's pretty funny. The memorable line occurs when Mant! climbs a building, and I believe it is John Goodman who cries, "Come down, Bill! We have sugar!"

Hope you get relief soon for your back. Can you sleep? (I'm taking a couple Tylenol-3 a day -- with a stool softener -- during post-op recuperation.)

On back: went to see doctor this morning. After saying I REALLY needed to see a doctor, was asked if I hurt back at work. When I said... maybe, not sure, I don't know?!?... almost a chorus from other side of counter that I'd have to go to a workman's comp doctor. I'm NOT much of a doctor person to begin with but number one concern was STOP THE PAIN... then figure out what the problem is. Had a talk with some sort of non-doctor (PR person) , Explained original injury is 20 some years old, re-injured about 2 years ago, and possibly job connected, I don't know. Explained I wasn't leaving without getting some help and she agreed we had NOT had the conversation, iykwim.

Getting an xray and bone density scan on Friday. Doctor said wouldn't be surprised if it was a compression and/or related arthritis... AGE related!! At least doctor wasn't a "kid". Got prescription for Tramadol?? Doctor said not a major, heavy-duty pain med. Coulda fooled me from the literature that came with it! Said dosage was kind of an as needed thing... from 1/2 pill to no more than 2 every 8 hours. Has been about hour and half since taking first dose, so just waiting to see how it goes.

Hope you get some relief soon.

I watched What's Eating Gilbert Grape yesterday.

Interesting movie.

It was a great spoof on a lot of the horror movies that came out of that time. In early 60s, hat caused Godzilla and all those mutant, giant insect movies... THE BOMB! Never saw one, but remember some movies being advertised... no one admitted during last 5 minutes, and people signing waivers in case they were literally scared to death. References to Communists in the film industry.

I do hope you feel better soon, personally I would not have wasted my time watching that movie, sorry, just me.

Take some stool softeners with the Tramadol. I'm taking Tylenol-3 and one 100 mg. softener three times a day as I recover from colon surgery.

I'm filling my time reading novels. I'm walking as tolerated, but not very strong yet.

Kise, watch this video. I've had multiple back surgeries and years and years of pain until I read Dr. Sarno's book. What I had perceived how to handle the pain was all wrong and he tells you how to avoid it. I spent three years not being able to sit down and someone on Garden Web recommended his book to me, I was in excruciating pain. Four days later the pain was at least 70% less and there are even days I have no pain. I take no drugs for it now and continue his method. Good luck.

Healing back pain is the name of his book.

If you have problems with constipation while taking a narcotic, each time you take a pill take a prune or two. Don't have to take more medications that way.

I love dried fruit, especially apricots, but am on a low-fiber diet. No prunes. Right now I would *love* to eat a baked potato! (Not permitted for at least a week.)
