What kind of movies do you like? We've been watching a lot of movies while pretty much snowed in ths winter. These two just happened to be the last two that we absolutely loved and that I can actually remember the names of :-) I'm sure I can come up with other names if I think really hard (and maybe ask my husband which ones he remembers :-)

The Bucket List with Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson.

I just watched Gran Torino and I liked it. It's very pro-Asian and has a good message behind it.

I loved Shattered with Pierce Brosnan. Good thriller.

Did NOT love Death Sentence with Kevin Bacon. Too much gore.

Enemy of the State with Will Smith was okay. I really like Will Smith and it probably would have been better if I had actually sat down and watched it uninterrupted, but I was puttering around the house and only half paying attention.

Loved, loved, loved Arctic Tale: Queen Latifah narrates the life journey of Seela the walrus and Nanu the polar bear, from birth through maturity and parenthood, where the cycle begins anew and they pass what they've learned to the next generation.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang with Robert Downey should be here today.

Did I mention I LOVE Netflix??

I like movies like Dances With Wolves, Steel Magnolias, Pretty Woman. I don't care for Sci-Fi.

i got on a action kick and watched the "shooter"...

I'll add Mama Mia which is a fun movie...(if you can't wait to hear Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan sing, lol).
I also enjoyed "21" which stars Lawrence Fishburne, Kevin Spacey and Kate Bosworth in a true story about a group of maths nerds who used their skills to fleece a casino.
Gran Torino is great.

just saw "Beyond the Sea" with Kevin Spacey (Bobby Darin's life) Loved it; had great music

This is an old one, and I don't find that many people have heard of it. "Heart and Souls". I don't usually like "feel good" movies, but this has a "try to figure it out" side to it and I love that. And it is a wonderful movie. VERY worth seeing IMO.

All of the above are romantic comedies with a little drama.

"Ghost Town" a comedy which I haven't yet seen.. but it is supposed to be good.

I should keep a list of movies I like.. can't remember them when someone asks.

Over Her Dead Body was a good movie.

The Life Before Her Eyes (Uma Thurman) SUCKED big time.

"Freedom Writers" I thought this would bore me, but it was a wonderful true story... not boring in the least!

I love Netflix, too, and just had Judi Dench's series, "Cranford", and loved it. I have been getting the different series that I missed for some reason or other, and am doing all the Helen Mirran's "Prime Suspect", which I really liked. I like the idea of this thread, as it helps to get some idea of what the movie is about.

The Notebook is another excellent one.

Just thought of something I thought I'd add. We've been watching a LOT of movies this winter. We've started keeping a notepad and pen on the coffee table and when the video is going through all the previews, we jot down the names of the ones that we think we'd like. Next time we need to pick out movies we've got our list all ready. It's been working great!

Oh a couple of other 'old' favorites that my husband hadn't seen... we rented these a couple of weeks ago and he liked them as much as I did.

Granlan: I saw and enjoyed all 3 movies you listed. Just don't look TOO closely for plot holes in Eagle Eye and BAR. You'll be sure to find some. ha ha. But I enjoyed watching all 3 of them.

Oh Jodi, I LOVED Outsourced. I am a big fan of indie and foreign movies and Outsourced had everything I love in a movie.

I had to go to IMDB to help figure out the ending of Swimming Pool. It confused me but I enjoyed the twists.

Along the lines of lovely indie/foreign movies is Monsoon Wedding. It takes place in India and is about 1/2 subtitles and 1/2 English. So beautiful. I think I need to watch that one again.

NK, I too love indie and foreign films. I went to the non-mainstream movies every Tuesday night with a friend for 8 years until he expectantly passed away four years ago. My DH husband does not care for the "artsy" films.

We should have an Indie Netflix party! We have a 64" big screen and popcorn. :-)

deemarie - Was "Beyond the Sea" at the movies or on DVD? I remember when Bobby Darin died............so sad. His album of ballads was seldom played on the radio but so great.

A couple of my other faves are "Somethings Got to Give" with Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson and "Love Floats" mmmmmmmmm, Harry Connick, Jr.

It's "Hope Floats" and I love that movie.

That made me think of "Iron Jawed Angels" with the same actress (whose name I can't think of) that was another good one.

"P.S. I Love You" Loved that one too. Again, same actress. Funny I don't consider myself a big fan of hers. Maybe I should re think that. Ha ha

"Hope Floats" - right you are. "Something to Talk About" was great also. Obviously, I lean toward romantic chick flicks LOL.

If you don't mind seeing some sex scenes and hearing a little bad language "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" is a really good movie. I usually don't like R-Rated comedies, but I liked this one!

I love Netflix too! I think it's one of the most well run companies on the 'net, and their website is simple and easy to navigate. Be sure to check out the free movies you can watch instantly on your computer. You can stop and go back to them later. It's wonderful. I've enjoyed these recently (some are instant).

While watching a movie (from Netflix!) recently, one of the previews was for a movied titled, Everything is Illuminated, from Warner Independent Pictures. Hubs and I had never heard of it, but the previews looked very interesting, so hubs put it on the list.

We loved it.

Lars and the Real Girl was highly recommended to me by more than one person. I started watching it last week, and like it so far. (It takes me a long time to watch a movie all the way through.)

A friend just got The Visitor from Netflix and raved about it.
