Very pleased with Kitchenaid kdte254ess, but only have had it a few weeks now--time will tell on reliability. We liked the racks better than the Bosch that was very similar in function and price, and it is super quiet, 38 or 39 db, something like that. The Bosch was 42db or 44db I think--not sure. Slightly louder.

Now we can't hear the dw running when watching TV. One up from this KA model had a few extra features for quite a bit more money, had an orbital spinning spray--figured it was just more things to break. This machine has cleaned a little better than our old Bosch and is so quiet.

Had a Bosch for 16 years, never a single repair, although the buttons were not working all that well anymore. When the pump went decided it was time for a new one. The Bosch worked really well, too--we were planning to get a Bosch but went for the KA instead.

My two-handed one has worked on an on-and-off basis, but reasonably effectively, for something like 80 years or so.

Low-cost, as well.

The KitchenAid that's in our new house is lousy. We will be getting a Miele to replace it soon!

Lol, OJ...Ive considered replacing it with another cabinet so I can get my large crockpot and my cast iron pot off the counter. My kitchen is basically a walkthru to the laundry room...sooo tiny. Thanks for the replies!

Sushipup, we did a kitchen remodel awhile ago and included a Miele dishwasher. 15 years later when we needed to replace it, we learned the cabinet space was "euro size" and all that could fit (without redoing cabinets) was another Miele or a euro-made Bosch. At the time, most Bosch machines were US made and US size, only a few European ones were available. It wasn't a problem, we wanted and bought a new Miele.

I mention this because it may be the space you have is too big for a Miele without some carpentry to fill it in. Or, it may be different today from how it was a few year ago. Or maybe my situation was different from what you have. No matter. They're great machines and very worth having.

Have loved every kitchen aid dishwasher I have owned . So glad we have a brand new one which I have already been using even though I am not back in the house yet . I recommended the same one to my neighbor who bought it and loves it .

We have a Fisher Paykel (drawers) dishwasher and I like it. At first it took me some time to get use to the drawers, now I like being able to wash smaller amounts.

It's a tiny size difference, Elmer. It's a problem perhaps if you're going the other way. The KA is 23-7/8. the Miele is 23-5/8. We can live with it. Unlike the present KA with is junk.

Another Miele owner here; ours is the lowest-end one and about 8 years old, and was the only thing we put back in the kitchen when we remodeled. I wish I had a bought a model that uses salt because I have to use Lemishine since my water is quite hard. I will buy Miele again if this one ever dies.

I will relate my unusual experience, for what it is worth. Have a 1 1/2 year old Bosh...cleans very quietly and well. However, I find that the new ones that are energy efficient do not rinse as well, thus most often I (and only me, with MY sensitive smeller) am so put off by the smell too often. There is a huge thread of complaints somewhere on this topic and I am not alone. For many months, we ran a whole cycle with nothing added, then, trying every detergent, I did switch to Finish Washing Detergent and have had that problem way less often and only on glasses. My guess is that newer dishwasher use far less water and today, I would opt for a cycle where I could just add additional rinse cycle.

Maybe it was the particular spot we have, it's where the counter turns. No matter, as I said.

Both old and new models we've had use salt, it does seem to make a difference.

Nanny, do you use rinse aid? Also, your hot water temp setting can make a big difference if your machine doesn't have an internal heater.

When anyone replaces a dishwasher they've had for 10 or 15 years with a new one they are going to be disappointed unless their old one was at the bottom of list for performance in the first place.

People who have never had a dishwasher before this decade will love the new ones. People who actually once owned dishwashers that washed and dried and left dishes too hot too touch and dry at the end of the old one hour cycle will be saddened. ;-( Thank the new energy and water use standards. Takes 2 - 3 times to do a load and requires the use of drying agents to dry. I saw a dishwasher recently that came with this hang tag: "For best drying results use sani cycle". So much for saving energy. LOL

I'm replacing my DW soon and will go with Kitchenaid. I prefer their layout.

We have no Miele service here.

My 10+ yr old Kitchen Aid works like a charm, no issues ever. No repairs ever. My SIL just replaced her older Kitchen Aid and was told the newer models coming out soon that are even more energy efficient may not please people the way the older ones have.

My appliance service person here for my washing machine one day told me he likes Bosch for a dishwasher if efficiency and reliability are important.

When the day comes I need to replace mine, I just want one that cleans, sanitizes, and dries, the complaint I'm hearing is some of the new do not dry well. Its noise level is of no interest to me, if its cleaning my dishes it's OK with me that I'm aware its running ;0)

I love my Bosch, especially because of the third rack for silverware. It is very quiet and I am happy with how it cleans. If you get a Bosch, though, you should be aware that their lower end washers are different in quality from the upper end ones.

Is the hose loop up high enough? There have been many threads on this subject, especially a bad order, in the appliance forum.

I sound like an ad but I absolutely have to use Lemishine along with the Finish tab in order to get the dishes completely clean. I did make up my own once with citric acid and salt and it worked fine too--I got lazy.

I can only say that I do not recommend my Frigidaire Gallery. Along with the typical complaints of needing to use the strongest/hottest settings to get things clean, it has needed repair 3 times in the not-quite-three years it has been in service. I loved my Kenmore (which may have been made by Whirlpool) that this semi-lemon replaced -- still functioned after 15 years although the racks had rusted

I had a Maytag before my Bosch and the Maytag left the dishes completely wet. I use Finish Jet-Dry with my Bosch and they come out fairly dry. I guess I would have had better luck with the Maytag if I had used the Jet-Dry then too.

I'm on my second set of Fisher Paykel dishdrawers. First set lasted 15 years. LOVE the ease of the top drawer with 'backup' space below. I use Cascade Complete and Jet Dry. Normal Wash is 120 minutes -- almost unavoidable today. We fill the top drawer through the day and run it after dinner. Just the right size for two adults who are eating B, L, D at home most days.

I bought a cheap GE for the condo because it has an actual short rinse and hold. (5 mins.) By using the rinse, we can run one load. No rinse in a hot climate = Roaches in the DW.

I have a Miele 5 years old. It cleans well but for some reason my stainless comes out with marks - dark like tarnish. Maybe I need to replace my flatware. Depending on the setting, it can take up to 3 hours to finish. In our condo in the Turks and Caicos I have the cheapest GE 10 years old and it cleans like a dream and fast too. For those of you who have Miele dishwashers, what detergent do you use?

I doubt it paperweights, I have one of the more expensive Maytags and have been truly disappointed. It too doesn't dry 100%, the racks started rusting after just a couple of years and I feel like it doesn't get stuff clean. I can't wait until it dies so I can replace it and if I can talk my dh into it, I may just replace it anyways. Our Maytag microwave is a dud too. Just turns off whenever it feels like it. I will never buy a Maytag again.

I had a Maytag in my house before selling 4 plus years ago and never thought it got things clean. My apartment and my new condo have low end Whirlpools that clean very well.

I had money then, but when it dies I'll buy the cheapest dishwasher I can find.

Honestly, I've been looking at the countertop dishwashers. I'm single & don't cook anymore. A big dishwasher is a waste for me now.

if I had money I'd buy the double drawer dishwasher and I could just run a 1 door wash.

I also love the new Kitchen Aid with the window. My heart goes pitter pat for that.

Pawprint, I'm not shopping yet for a dishwasher but the newer model KA you show has the same bar handle as my KA French door refer. Those handles are a problem for me, I have a drawer at a right angle to the dishwasher that wouldn't clear that handle, the handle comes out 3/8" too far. I could probably remember to open the dishwasher before opening the drawer so the drawer front didn't become damaged or dented, but I wouldn't trust it to anyone else using my kitchen and I do have friends who like to cook in my kitchen. And I wouldn't want to put myself in a position to have to remind DH 50 times ;0)

Morz8 the handle does protrude all of my kitchen aid appliances have that handle, I actually love it and the little shot gun shell badges on the ends but I sure understand your point. But kitchen aid does have a line that has a sloped handle that only protrudes at the center and one that has no handle at all. I looked at all of them when I bought mine. I specifically wanted the ones with the bar handles. I imagine I may bump a hip a few times on it and the same one on my KA stove. I don't have the KA fridge but I have been looking at it. My GE profile survived the flood, after a $500 replacement part, and is working fine, but I am considering moving it to the sunroom and getting the KA fridge I have been lusting over lol.

morz, the handle was the main reason I got the Maytag that I bought. It was hard to find a unit without a huge handle sticking out!

raven....my counter depth KA frig. is da bomb! I got the architectual handles....they slope, then matched half the cabinet handles to those, bar handles on the rest.

I also have an Amana, a GE(lower end) and a Whirlpool....they all get the dishes clean....

You might check the Restores in your area. In Denver, they have GREAT deals on name brand dishwashers. Selling for $150-$200. (I paid $200 for the GE Monogram.

Pawprint -- Fisher Paykel has single drawer dishwashers too. We seldom use the lower drawer -- mostly run it just to keep the thing operational. I feel quite put-upon at the Maui condo when I have to *bend* all the way down to near the floor to load and unload the GE.

I had a Whirlpool, and I loved it. It needed to be replaced this spring. I liked the other one so much, I bought another that looks a whole lot like it. It does clean the dishes, so no complaints there, but, the piece has fallen off the top rack already, and the construction of it seems very flimsy. I would not buy another.
