Countertop dishwasher recommendation please
Comments (16)If you want to get one for your son, I recommend checking the clearance from the countertop to the upper cabinets - our apartment didn't have enough clearance, so we put ours on a microwave stand and wheeled it over when we wanted to use it. It worked fairly well, especially when I didn't want to handwash multiple loads. Oh, and the extra storage in the cart gave us space for large flour, liquor bottles, etc. We liked ours as it was nice to put dirty dishes in the dishwasher until they could be washed, rather than fill up our tiny single-sink. (I hate single sinks!). It didn't hold TONS of dishes, but could wash 4 places settings, or a few less dishes and a few medium size pot/pans. We have to handwash an oversize pot or two , but its still worth it. Before you get one, check his rental policy - ours said it was only allowed with permission from the landlord, otherwise we'd risk eviction if it was discovered. We showed our landlord the calcs that it used less water than filling the sink, and ours was approved. We kept a copy stuck to the dishwasher in case anyone ever asked, or caretakers changed. My only regret is the Danby model we bought - it eventually cracked in two spots on the faceframe. We glued it back together and still use it, but its kinda ugly....See MoreDishwasher panel-ready recommendation - help!
Comments (7)Bosch makes one, and we've been pleased with our Bosch. One thing to consider about custom panels for any kind of appliance is that the size needed for the panel may change over the years. When the dishwasher (or fridge in our case) needs to be replaced the original panels may not fit the new appliance. It can be difficult to have a replacement panel made in the future. I searched a lot of websites when we needed to replace a fridge with panels. Even the same brand and generally same model needed different sizes of panels. Our cabinet maker has since retired so it wasn't an option to have new ones made for us as we needed a fridge immediately. Ended up with stainless and will try to replace the rest of the built in appliances with stainless as they die....See MoreBosch vs Miele dishwasher? Recommendations on model numbers please
Comments (11)We have had the BSHX878ZD5N dishwasher for 2 years. It mostly dries the dishes all of the way. Sometimes, water remains on the tops of coffee mugs. I learned a trick to open the dishwasher, after the heating cycle has completed, and put a terry cloth dish towel on the top rack and close the washer with it hanging part way out. This collects any remaining moisture. It works!!! We have been pleased enough with the dishwasher, although I think it could do a better job of cleaning. I rinse dishes before putting them in the washer, and my DH scrubs dishes. They can still come out with some spots that are not cleaned. Especially some dried-on food! It may be that our water is not hot enough during the start cycle. Takes a while for hot water to get to our kitchen. My favorite thing about the dishwasher is the silverware rack. Love lining up the forks, spoons, and knives. After cleaning, I can gather a whole row of like silverware and put directly into the drawer. No sorting!!!...See MoreYour Personal Dishwasher Recommendations (or Anti-Recommendations)
Comments (46)To ensure that the dishwasher you choose works for you, bring some of your dishes, bowls, and pots to the dealer. Try loading the dishwasher as you usually would. I did this and found that my dishes fit very nicely into the Bosch dishwasher so I never had all those loading problems of which many people write. I love the Bosch dishwasher. The 60 minute cycle cleans all the dishes, glasses and silverware and uses less water than the regular cycle. I use the third rack for my silverware and odd utensils (spatulas, measuring spoons, etc.) It's quiet, loads well, and cleans wonderfully....See Moresushipup1
