Questions about Agave Americana

Hi forum,

I was given a few of these agave pups and am just in love with the bluish-green coloring and abrupt, architectural lines. I'm also in the middle of transitioning our garden into a mostly xeriscape area, so am actively seeking out plants like this to replace the drought-weary non-survivors. However, after id'g them as agave americana plants and researching how big these plants get (8-10 ft tall and wide?! seriously?), I'm a little hesitant to plant them. We definitely have the space (dry upslope that gets over 10 hours direct sun), but I don't know if I want a humongous monster agave dominating the space. Is it possible to restrict its growth by planting it in-ground in a pot (forgive if that's a silly question - I'm a gardening novice)? Or is this a common Thing I Regret Planting plant? Would appreciate your experience with this behemoth beauty.

If it helps - we have a few thriving agave attenuatas that love it here.
