What a great photo captured! And also a terrific feeder, great setup. I am hoping to put together a suet log and your photo is a great example. One thing I do remember about the hairy woodpecker is that its bill is close to the length of its head, where the downey's is smaller relative to its head size. That would make me think your woodpecker is a hairy. Thanks again for sharing -

I love to see everyone's visitors. Wish we had frogs. The possums would eat them though. Snakes don't worry me. If they aren't poison snakes. The little ones are soft and give delicate brushes with their tongues to see who you are. How can they go so quickly without any legs or feet? We have hummingbirds now. I found a young one on the ground and gave it sugar water and made it a nest out of moss. I put it in a hanging basket in my bottle brush tree. It called all morning for its mother and I kept my eye on it. By afternoon the mother was flying around my nest and by sunset the baby was gone.

Awww how cute! Love the mourning doves! Melissa, I'll have to research about torties. I have one beautiful girl myself. As I'm typing this, she's sitting here rubbing on me and getting in my way. She's not an outdoor kitty. All our cats are indoor cats. Ginger is my favorite. But she's quite the psycho kitty. She will be all loving and climb up on my chest, nuzzling my neck.. But if I touch her wrong or say the wrong thing... she swiftly swats at my face (claws out) and hisses and jumps away, only to come right back up all lovey dovey again. Sometimes she gets mad if I try to move her when she's in my way at the computer. Then she'll hiss and growl and get all pissy, and even act like she's going to reach out and claw the crap outta me. I will scold her and tell her to knock it off, and you can just see, she wants to be good, and she knows she's being a brat. But it's like she just can't help it! Beautiful, but crazy psycho kitty! Maybe it's because she's a calico/tortie blend. I call her a "tortico." And she has that almost-chimera face. I'm thinking that's why she's so psycho! Ginger

I have mostly house sparrows and house finches coming to my feeder, and I do see the house finches getting aggressive with each other, fighting for their place on one of the 4 feeders. I also have tufted titmouse, doves, blue jays, cardinals, chickadees, and woodpeckers visiting, but only in pairs or singly. And a Red-tailed hawk that regularly tries to snatch dinner. I also have a half dozen squirrels scavenging under the feeders daily. I had a video of my effective means of keeping them from eating the seed in the feeders, but seem to have lost it. In short, I used 6' tall garden flag holders (that I already had), with a 3 ft. or so arm & hook shape on the end - and cut 2 liter soda bottles to fit over the arms. When the squirrel climbs up and tries to cross the arm to the feeder, the bottles spin and dump him off!
