ec meter calibration - need help quick!!!
Comments (10)LOl ok, let me explain more... I knew it was calibrated to 1413, but I was told to re-calibrate it using my 1000ppm solution because it's closer to the tap water. So I went through the directions step by step reading it very carefully and doing it as stated, I did this multiple times and got the same results, always getting 227. My actual question was what settings do I use? EC or ppm (I always hear EC is better so I went with that) and then it also gives me the choice to also measure in NaCI, KCI or 442. I've already ruled out 442, and I am pretty sure it's NaCI so I went with that. SO the combination I'm using is EC/NaCI to measure my water with. Sound right?? What's confusing me is that everything I have reference to for my nutes says 1.6 or 2.4... or the ppm of 1540...so my meter gives me a number of 227 and THAT is what is confusing me! lol I'm looking for a something point something and it's giving me a whole number! **brain pain** Ok, so you threw a number out to me, "0.23" ...how did you figure this number out? I know you put it in parenthesis, but how did you get there? (PS I already knew that my water isn't hard, so this is a good sign, right!?)...See MoreUsed Miele Pricing? Quick replies needed!
Comments (150)Sorry all! 'Been running all day ... No decision yet but I had a great conversation with my sales "guy" this am. He's a good guy - no pressure to buy anything particular. He gave me good info on both the Miele and LG. If any one is interested, he said his first choice after Miele is Samsung (but no gas dryer so onto LG for me). He's not a fan of Whirlpool/Maytag and he showed me some reasons. He works at the store where they sell the most Miele in all of Canada so he knows Miele. Miele has also paid for him to go to Germany and see manufacturing first hand. He, of course, is sold on Miele's commitment to quality build/materials. He said they ask Miele about steam all the time as every brand offers it now. Miele said they won't do it until they can do it perfect. He had nothing bad to say about the LG. He said if you get a good one they are great. He said if you get a bad one ... it used to be worse but they have changed their policy and after 3 service calls they give you a new machine. They figured out (under warranty) any more calls was costing them more than just giving a new machine to replace an obvious lemon. That's reassuring. With his cost, the LG would run me about $1,200 less and he says there is no reason I shouldn't get at least 10 years ... maybe 15. Of course, Miele will take me 20 or more ... "they" say. The reason for the delay is I quizzed him about the supposed changes to the W4XXX so he called his people at Miele. Sounds like just some minor aesthetic stuff but I showed him the left hand washer and he wanted to know more. He pushed them about the left hand washer and no one was saying too much. The IDS (Interior Design Show) starts today and my "guy" is going to the Miele invitation only party. He says they usually show/talk about what's coming so he wants me to wait until tomorrow when he can tell me more. Have I decided?? Still not 100% ... I'll wait to hear more tomorrow. If it is truly just aesthetics than no biggie but if they are going to come out with a left hand door than I want to know. He also confirmed with two different Miele people that yes indeed the T9822 is available to ship. Bottom line, I can have either set installed early next week and be doing laundry without stressing my machine will implode (which is what is happening as I type). I really do like both - in a perfect world I'd have both ... LOL ... but alas ... I'll have to choose one. I may be leaving town for the weekend so if you don't hear from me tomorrow it may not be until Tuesday that I get back on here. Sorry you have to wait a little longer ... :) Here's something I thought of today, my "guy" was giving me some performance points about Miele today that I hadn't read anywhere. Things Miele tells them about the machines. For one example, the 4.0 cu. ft. drum is the "perfect" size for properly tumbling the clothes for the best clean and their tumble action is different than others. I realized today that Miele does a lousy marketing job. In everything I've read and seen, hardly any real "meat" about what sets them apart (besides their quality and their honeycomb drum). A little "ah ha" moment today ... I mean what is with their website?? They need serious marketing help ... they haven't even updated their site with the W4842. He told me if Miele would put a machine that's opened up on the sales floor so they can show customers what's inside people would buy them no hesitation. It's just all that stuff in "intangible" because you can't see it. Makes sense....See MoreNew Here, Question about dog w/shoulder pain
Comments (16)There are a couple of things that really got my attention about this post. Basically, I think Cynthia hit it on the head, I'll just expand on it. First of all I had a dog Shepard/Lab for 14 years. She had numerous issues since I adopted her at 9 months. Because of all of her issues, I learned a lot and, also became furious with veterinarians for not curing things. (Once I was so mad, I almost lost my dog and I almost put my cell phone through a window, and Im considered a very calm person) I am now on my 8th vet in 15 years. You mentioned a tick bite. I noticed that Cynthia mentioned this. I don't believe anyone specifically mentioned Lyme disease. Of the four dogs that I have had over the past 15 years, two have had it. One was easily diagnosed, the other was not. The one that was not (Anela) was horribly emaciated when I adopted her at 9 months. To make a long sad story short, the vet that I had, originally diagnosed her with a brain tumor and started rattling off numbers about what it would take etc. etc. All of this within a few days after I got the dog! Even though the vet new Anela's history (she came from West Virginia, where there is a very high rate of Lyme) he originally did not do the test (that by the way would have only cost $35.00). It was only after I spent about $300.00 for a mis-diagnosis and I consulted two other vets that I trust but can't retain, did the Lyme test get done. Guess what, she had Lyme. Pills fixed the problem. My point with this is not all vets recognize Lyme and the symptoms. I have discovered that any type of joint pain could be Lyme. In my case, Anela could not eat, even though she looked like a walking skeleton because her jaws hurt. I couldnÂt even touch them. No other symptoms were there. The other thing that got my attention was the medication that you initially started with. I learned the hard way (because I almost lost another dog) to quiz the vet thoroughly about what is going on. I want to know what he/she is doing and why. If the process seems to involved, I research the subject and consult with other vets who can educate me. Most importantly, I want to know how long the medication is going to take to fix the problem. There should be an easy direct answer to this. If there is a hesitation, then I would say I need to research the problem before anything is done. Unfortunately, I have not had a good experience with vets. I had numerous occasions where I felt like they saw me as an open wallet walking through their door. You spent $400.00! That's a lot of money. (although I always say that money is not the real issue, but to an extent it is). Also, people with pets are at a disadvantage when it comes to their sick pets. When it happens, we usually don't know anything about the problem and rely on someone who supposedly does. For this reason, unless there is what I term "a life threatening situation" such as severe vomiting, I assume that itÂs a minor thing. If there is a major thing, I probably will wind up at the emergency clinic. If you haven't already, I would research any topic you can find about what your dog is going through. Quiz the vet, and take the upper hand in this. I think the process of getting your dog cured is dragging on for to long. It should have been fixed by now, unless there is something seriously wrong that requires surgery. (for all you know it could be something minor). Fortunately I now have a wonderful vet. When I first called her, she answered the phone. I have sent numerous people to her, everyone loves her. She is the only vet in the clinic, something I really like. She is never rushed and has helped me through numerous issues. Good luck! Keep us posted! SG...See MoreNeed ideas to keep active dog inactive
Comments (21)Nancy, it's going OK. I didn't get around to post an update because we spend all weekend at a soccer tournament. Spot is settling into the routine of just being allowed out to do his business and coming right back. We went to the vet Sat. morning and he had another acupuncture treatment. We discussed surgery options and decided to try a brace first. It will be custom made and support the joint and give the muscles time to strengthen around the joint. It is kind of hard to describe, but I will post pictures after we get it. It will be probably a little over a week. It is designed by a "human" orthopedic surgeon who had a blown acl on his dog and was less than thrilled with the surgery result. I was asking the vet about TPLO and the other surgery and he recommended not doing the TPLO. He said that it has been advertised as the best thing to prevent arthritis later on, but people are finding out that the first dogs with it are getting arthritis now (6-7 years later) anyway. The vet tech told me that the had the ligament connecting surgery done on a couple of her dogs and they are doing just as well as dogs she knows with the TPLO. But we are not at that point at the moment and are taking a more conservative approach. I'm having a hard time to convince my husband to even do anything less alone surgery. He thinks it is just a dog and when he grew up they just put them down when something like that happened. Over my dead body, is all I can say. Here is Spot sharing his new pillow with one of the cats. A few minutes before both cats had been laying with him. And he is not overweight, he just looks like it in this picture.
