CV is fragrant! Also it has been trialed in hot dry climates. Perhaps it fades a bit in low humidity, but still quite productive on flowers and in general very good performance. The opposite seems to happen in heat and high humidity - the color is more intense peach-bronze.

nandoll thank you for the comment. We grow Heaven on Earth in our no spray trials. The performance is not very good. We see about 50 percent of the foliage affected by black spot. HOE was introduced by J&P in the 1990s. It was never introduced by Kordes in Germany. There are so much better introductions for disease resistance that Kordes has introduced in the 21st Century. Lots of new peach and apricot roses coming out this year like Crazy Love for those who are looking for roses in these colors.

CV has a slight smell but it won't waft in your garden. The fading is the worst thing about this rose, rather unsightly. Very healthy otherwise.

Are Don Juan's leaves more shiny or more matte? If shiny, CV if more old fashioned, Gruss.

In my hot S CA climate, Gruss blooms a bit more than CV. Gruss flowers don't last as long on the bush, though. The petals do drop off on there own, while CV holds on to them after they are long past their prime. Lisa

Both are new in my garden this year. Both are own root bands. No blooms yet on Gruss, but CV, planted in an urn, has not been without a cluster of blooms. It was near freezing last night which turned her blooms a deeper color - more like Alchymist. I'm sure I will love Gruss once she gets going, but CV has proven herself. I agree CV needs a little help dropping spent blooms, as do many others, including the lovely First Crush, but no problem pulling them off.

My Gruss has larger blooms than CV. I really love them both so far. Both are about 1 1/2 years old, and both are grafted. I did have some powdery mildew on both of them in the spring, but both have overcome it just fine on their own. Cut for the vase, CV lasts longer for me. I'm not sure which one I like better. They are both wonderful smaller bushes. Lisa

Nope. My Gruss was from a local garden center. (Clearanced $5). My Cream Verandas (I have 2), were on clearance from either J and P, or Wayside gardens. I know those 2 are connected, I don't remember which one I ordered from. I assume they are grafted? Lisa

No the CV from Wayside or J&P are own root plants - it is a very nice sized own root plant- compact in size but healthy and vigorous

Gussie is my choice. If you ever want something a bit larger, Lions Fairy Tale ( lions rose ) is a good choice for warm dry areas. It needs irrigation but will bloom all season and can take wind without blowing apart. No perfume but the flowers are beautiful cream lightening to almost white. In cooler areas, the plant is smaller.

I know this is an old post but to answer the question of cream veranda or Gruss An Aachen . I'd say both here's pictures of my brand new baby Gruss and a one year old cream veranda
