Comments (22)I only heard about Speed Queen two days ago and I'm already an owner of a TL one. We've had a Frigidaire for about 7 years, we never had any repair issues with it but every now and then my wife and I would see little holes in our clothes. At first we never really questioned it, then we figured well maybe it's bugs, maybe zippers from other clothes, maybe the seatbelt in our car, etc.. etc... Then the problem seemed to go away only to re-appear, maybe there's a loose screw in the washing machine, nope. Again, we kind of forgot about the issue and/or holes were not occurring anymore. Fast forward to present time and we have a newborn in the picture, most of her outfits have holes in them after washing them. That was the last straw, my wife (and I wish we would have done this many years ago) started looking online for "holes in clothes" only to find out that these stupid FL machines have a knack the world over to putting holes into everyone's clothes when thin materials get into the holes of the tub. So we decided we're going TL, I went to the appliance store where we recently bought all our kitchen appliances from and who for the most part only carry European and American solid made appliances (lots of help also over in the appliance forum of GW) and told them we're looking for a TL washer. He showed me the Speed Queen and said you won't be disappointed, I said let me look into it. We looked at a ton of reviews two nights ago and were immediately sold, I purchased it yesterday and we'll have it on Monday. I can't wait for "no more holes". I wish we would have cut our losses years ago as my wife has probably thrown away a decent amount of her work clothes over the years. I'm looking forward to the Speed Queen and hoping that it comes as advertised by all these reviews on here and other sites. These FL washers are BS....See MoreSpeed Queen FL Owners....
Comments (2)I had one at an old house and I let it transfer with the house. I really regret that. It did a great job washing (although I think that's the case with all machines when used correctly and in working order). Build quality was top notch, no repairs ever. If you ever do need help, though, or have questions, phoning Speed Queen will not put you through to a clueless underpaid customer service rep. It will put you straight through to someone at the factory in Ripon, Wisconsin who knows what they're talking about. The primary business for these people is commercial laundry, they don't mess around. Similarly, as you can tell if you've seen one of these machines, they also don't mess around when it comes to the physical design of the machines. They look very utilitarian, and don't have many cycles, options, or features. That could be a deal breaker if you care about that stuff. I've had a lot of front loaders, including the Maytag Neptune, Whirlpool Duet, and LG, and while I could write pages and pages comparing and contrasting them, I'll keep it short and just say Speed Queen was the best. And for the price, it better have been. Just curious, how were your previous 2 sets of FLs fails? Performance issues, or repair issues? Although I understand your frustration I wouldn't lose faith in FLs completely, remember that these are used in laundromats all over the place and this is the only type of machine they have in Europe. Although the machines have had their shortcomings I've overall been happy with all the front loaders I've owned (though some more than others). If the design were inherently flawed, they wouldn't have made it this far....See MoreWhich washing machine? Fisher Paykal vs. speed queen vs. new GE
Comments (9)Be very careful about the build quality, customer service, and promises made by GE. They plumbed up the appliance cash cow for sale. If the sale to Electrolux doesn't go through there will be consequences. The quality of most of the GE laundry appliances is just so-so in my opinion. As in everything YMMV. There are winners, losers, and lemons in every product line as well. You will not find an easy consensus on anything because there are so many choices and no perfect solutions. Many bells and whistles and duplicate cycles to attract your attention. Who does most of the laundry? What are your must-haves? HE toploaders are a disaster. Consumers who don't read manuals or follow common sense have given some perfectly acceptable frontloaders a bad reputation with their bad habits. You will find a following for F&P on the forum as well as those who hate them. Speed Queen has a cult following on this forum. Most of us had to plod through, make a few mistakes, and decide what worked best for each. Do your appliances have to match? My compromise was to get the functionality in the frontloader (LG) I needed and pair it with the same color, but different manufacturer cheaper dryer. It's mostly worked out for us. BTW Speed Queen does make front loaders, but they do not have on-board heaters. I assume you are already acquainted with the differences in today's machines for limits of water temperatures and water levels and what you have been used to. First thing I would do is make sure I knew exactly what I needed at my best price point. Good Luck...See MoreDetergent, additives, Speed Queen TL
Comments (20)Lol...you can premix powder detergent with the stpp so its always ready...just mix 2 parts detergent to 1 part STPP stir well than add enough of this to make your water slippery..you can not do this with liquid detergent. Many people that get into the insides of washers report the exclusive use of liquid detergent causes build up of junk on washer parts that's why liquid detergent should be avoided as a daily driver. Liquid does have its place in the laundry room though...liquid detergent does better on oil/ grease (in hot water) and powders better on everything else. A few tips ...try using hot water at least on whites, bed sheets and towels. Or at least very warm which your Queens setting for warm is going to give you tepid not warm so you will have to fill part way on warm than switch it over to hot. Water temps play a huge role on how clean your clothes are getting and how clean your washers staying. Sort your clothes...I know this one might be a challenge for you lol...but you really will notice a difference. And don't over load that Queen, they arnt designed to keep up with heavy and hard to turn over loads besides clothes can't get clean if they can't turn over properly. I think you will enjoy your new Speed Queen once you get the hang of wadhing in a new way lol...my Speed Queen top loader AWN432 Is now almost 5 months old and I love it....See Morererod
