Comments (4)I was telling my grandson about your chocolate scented sunflowers. He was fascinated. He keeps asking me if I've arranged a trade yet. So I figured I better post, before they were all gone. I have some tall cannas--red flower with green leaves. I can email you a photo if you want. These cannas were actually passed down from my dad. They are probably about 25-30 years old--if not older. We've had alot of rain this week--so I can't get into them now. I'll email you and see if we can work something out....See MoreJerusalem Artichokes Choking Me!
Comments (1)I had a similar problem and was successful in getting rid of them by spraying the main section with roundup and by pulling out any new plants. If the tubers do not get nutrients, they must die. Good success....See MoreJerusalem Artichoke newbies
Comments (6)I too planted some tubers this year about 4 of them, I am in zone 6/7 mine are about 8 feet tall also but no flowers, it looks like they have flower heads forming. They form these tubers to survive the winter so they have some time before harvest. I had not planned to harvest mine until they die back. If you harvest as much as the tubers as you can even if you miss a few next year you may have a plant or two. I don't think they will take over the garden bed as quickly as you may be thinking. If you don't harvest the tubers then you may have more than you want next year. I planted them because it's a good source of food that is preserved on its own in the ground and as long as the ground is not frozen you can harvest as needed. Good luck and I will be interested in what others have to say as I too am new to growing these....See MoreBoy! These Jerusalem artichokes are growing so fast!
Comments (8)Yep, we're getting that rain too for the next few days. Maybe we will actually have a rainy season this year. The past few years, it started off o.k., then just stopped raining. Our ducks had no babies last year, because they need the water to hatch the eggs, and for the babies to swim in. The ducks next door had a few babies, but ours had none....See Moreescolat
