peace lily in need of help!
Comments (2)If the leaves are wilting, then the plant is not getting enough water. I can think of three reasons this might happen. 1) You're not watering enough (which, according to your info, is not the case). 2) The plant cannot take up water due to salt accumulation in the soil from fertilizer/tap water that isn't allowed to drain properly. 3) The soil is holding too much water causing the roots to rot. If the problem is salt accumulation, then you need to water the plant enough that a good portion of water runs out the bottom of the pot. This flushes out excess salt and should be done as frequently as possible. Also, don't allow water to sit in a dish underneath the pot. And I know you said the roots looked healthy, but a rotting root ball can still have some healthy looking roots near the surface. I'm including a link to a post I made on another thread about a peace lily. In it I show pictures of roots from a rotting peace lily and a recovered one. You can see that there are still some firm, white roots on the rotting one even though it was wasting away. A healthy root ball should look like the one in the second picture. I've found that my plants do best when peat is used very sparingly, if at all. Here is a link that might be useful: Sad Spathiphyllum...See Moresad looking peace lily
Comments (16)Yellowing leaves might mean not enough water. Brown tips mean there isn't enough humidity. Peace lilies like it humid. Mist the plant with water once a day, or put it on a dish filled with gravel and filled with water (the gravel keeps the roots from rotting). Another way is double potting it. I put my potted 4" peace lily in another 8" container and filled the outer layer with peat moss and kept the peat moss damp. The water evaporates and raises the humidity around the plant. My peace lily really loved this and was 60% bigger than another peace lily that I didn't do this to. I only had one spare container. lol...See MoreSunburned peace lily, new leaves dying - advice?
Comments (15)Thanks for helping me to correctly identify the plant I have. That has helped me find information regarding it's care, which seems to be a bit different than for peace lilies. floral_uk: Zimmerpflanzenerde is exactly what I have now and what seems not to be working very well. It's the best thing I could find in my area, though. I know I need to repot the plant, but my issue is that if this soil is not the right one for my plant, then I'm not sure what other kinds are available to me, so I'm trying to think of the best solution that I think I can manage. In every online resource I could find, the recommendation for anthurium is a soil composed of sphagnum peat moss, orchid bark, perlite, and sometimes regular houseplant soil. Orchid bark is something I've seen around here, so I'll see what I can do about that. Karen: Thanks for the tip about keeping the humidity high. I have been wetting the leaves of the plant (also to keep off dust), but I also saw today a recommendation for a tray of water with large pebbles in it so that the pot can sit on the pebbles, keeping the roots from becoming waterlogged, but the plant can enjoy the humidity as the water evaporates. It also looks nice, so I might try that out as well as misting the plant every day. I'll see what I can find to add to the soil to help it drain better. Thanks to everyone for the help!...See MoreMy not so peacful Peace Lily
Comments (7)I've had mine go completely bone dry before finally beginning to wilt. This wasn't intentional, I only mention it to point out that the wilting isn't from underwatering. Peace lilies love water, but their roots also love fresh air, so drainage is a must. I would also advise giving it much brighter indirect sunlight. Just because some plants can tolerate low light levels, it doesn't mean that they prefer it that way. Never seek advice from a big box employee. For most of them, it's just a job; they're paid to be there. They don't care about providing accurate advice. You're better off seeking out someone shopping there that actually wants to be there. More often than not, that's where you'll find me, HaHa. I've certainly helped other shoppers whenever they needed it....See MorePhoto Synthesis
