Picture placement
Comments (23)You guys are terrific! What a host of ideas. Patricia, you were right on. I don't intend to replace my furniture. Its contemporary from the 60's-70's, John Stuart which we bought through a decorator in NYC back in the early 70's. Its been through a lot but still has classic design. The headboard is too short for the king bed. I had the carpenter try to raise it but he could only go up 1/2 inch. Javachick, It didn't occur to me to extend the legs. I will look into that as it would help balance that wall plus make it visible. The funny part is that the master is a large bedroom suite. There is large, white travertine tile running throughout. My first thought was to tear it all up. It was newly laid before the house went up for sale. After we moved our furniture in there, it looked like 'old Hollywood.' The shiny white tile and the dark, rosewood, chrome bedroom. The top of the furniture is black lacquer. It was great in its day but it has gotten beaten up over the years. It was suggested I follow that theme, but I'm not sure because those windows and the slider just don't work. Patricia, the only revamping we are doing is paint, windows, master bath and doors. You were right on about putting something on the sides of the poster. I sort of like the idea of mirror panels which would fit the 'hollywood theme.' I'll be back for more suggestions as the work proceeds. This forum is fantastic, I've never gotten so many great ideas on any other forum! Thank you all very much, Headboard Chest. The original hinged pulls broke over the years and I was never able to find replacements. These are not the original pulls. Dresser. Again, not the original pulls Jane...See MorePlease help with Picture placement above the mantle
Comments (43)Sorry for the picture heavy page. :-). I have trouble expressing at certain times in words. So the pictures attempt to speak for me. Thank you Deborah for reminding me of creating the more soothing lines that I'd forgotten that Olychick told me about Olychick not sure if you're following this but you have helped me immeasurably. I have gone back several times over what you have said and that has been greatly appreciated and keeping me or editing. Yayagal I found this at a second hand shop. I guess it didn't suit the other person's decor or something like that. I was happy to pay the under $100 for it as it really makes me smile. Thank you for the compliment on it. 1 pink mountain thank you the compliment on my tchotchkes. I kept only my favorites when I purged many many many many things. Thanks also for your help with understanding why the smaller pieces don't work very well. When I'm up close to the fireplace I can see the pieces I love it's very hard to understand why they shouldn't be there. We are now looking for something more solid and structured but not sure what maybe some thick blue or black candle holders?...See MoreHelp with Picture Placement
Comments (10)I don't disagree with sofa table/lamps is a great look-- and something to ultimately do, but what if they don't have the $$ to make those changes or other issues where the sofa can't be moved down, say like a vent. So for now w/everything as is, it becomes a general design ?/issue...in a peaked ceiling room, which should art generally relate to....the peaked ceiling or object underneath? I think it's the object below....See MoreWould The Picture Placement Bother You?
Comments (14)I have a piece of artwork hung like that over a door. A deer head used to hang above the door, it fell and the nose broke off. It happened to be Christmas that year and I had an old framed tapestry of the nativity which I usually put somewhere for the holiday every year. Well I hung the tapestry over the door and its frame hangs lower than the deer head, thus covers some of the top of the door casing. It was suppose to be temporary but has been there for years now. Also, a large portrait of a Civil War ancestor was gifted to me several years ago. I hung it in the only place I could find at the time. It covers part of the same door's side casing. So, yeah it looks a little strange but I've gotten used to it and it hasn't bothered me enough to change either art work's placement. I'm sure other people find it unsettling. ETA: I don't really like the way the portrait in the OP's post looks however....See More2pups4me
