fencelines, surveys and neighbors. Advice??
Comments (27)Deb, I'm not exactly sure of all your circumstances, but I'll try to offer some Land Surveyor advice as it applies here in Illinois. How long has your neighbor lived in the house? In Illinois, adverse possession can be an issue after 20 years. If she has openly and notoriously maintained and believed that part of the yard in question is hers, she may have an basis for an argument. This is something a Land Surveyor really can't determine - only a lawyer. As far as granting access to her parcel from yours, you really don't have to do this unless her parcel was landlocked and your parcel had senior rights over her parcel. In other words, her parcel was split off from yours and was completely surrounded by other parcels, where access to and from couldn't be accomplished unless crossing someone else's land. Usually an ingress/egress easement is written for access. Property issues are never easy. You can usually get 10 different surveyors to generally agree, but then get 10 lawyers to thoroughly confuse the courts to a point where they believe white is black and the sun rises in the west. Make sure you have a valid, signed and sealed (in the state which you live in) survey from a reputable surveyor who is familiar with the area. You could offer her to hire an independent survey done, but it sounds like she isn't too open to communication. Be sure to save all of your emails with the neighbor. It sounds like you will probably need them later on....See MoreRegardless of the election results
Comments (223)My experience in health care is anecdotal since our situation changed after Obamacare passed, but I found much more transparency in pricing for all services, as well as more detailed bills, access to records, and so on, after Obamacare. Of course, some of this was simply due to health records going online. We don't qualify for any subsidies so we were more diligent in learning what the costs were and how best to use the piddly coverage we have. Transparency is there--the consumer just has to look for it. I don't believe government regulation in healthcare is any more dangerous than a system driven by pharmaceutical and insurance profits. We're still trying to get a handle on the opiate addiction that's rampant because dangerously addictive drugs were over-prescribed to a population that didn't understand their impact by a less-than-transparent pharmaceutical industry. Wanna talk about transparency? There's your severe lack of it. There has been very, very little accountability for this, and the burden has fallen on communities and the taxpayers. Yet we all benefit to some degree from competition in healthcare (and especially after patents wear off... ). I think there's often better research taking place in Europe whose results are often ignored here because there's little profit in them, though. I'm interested in seeing how Obamacare ends up by this new administration. I think the silver lining of my inflated premiums, is that it's going to force the issue to be addressed....See MoreIs Twitter real news?
Comments (37)Here's how it might work for me, with an example. Flint has/had a serious problem with their public water supply corroding pipes and releasing lead, when they switched water sources, (perhaps you have heard). Being a scientist and one who is highly interested in water quality issues, I found the local reporting sketchy, and confusing. So I had to search out other sources, which I could find online--in depth reports and position papers from the EPA, local health agencies, U of M researchers, and other reporters who either blogged or later in depth pieces in national and local news outlets. Just heard a blip about a report the other day, about the fact that aging lead pipes corroding are a nation wide problem, a lot in older, urban areas. Here's an example of an article. In that article, there are lots and lots of other sources cited, which you can then go to for further information. NPR is the source of origin, but in the article are tips for many other places to follow up for further details.Where are lead water pipes in Michigan Another example, HC's e-mail scandal. I read an in-depth article on the FBI report on her e-mails in the New York Times. Still wanted more info. so one simple google led me to the FBI's Web site and I found their release of their report on their entire investigation, which I then read. Went to a few other articles on various lawyers opinions on the legality or illegality of her actions. Worked for the feds a couple of times, and had to go through FOIA training for my e-mail so I was familiar with the issues too, through real-life experience. Also did my masters thesis on using the Internet so had some basic background knowledge and a piqued interest in subjects relating to Internet use....See MoreTrump's executive orders - healthcare
Comments (34)Who...? We have been told it's actually and mostly white men making more than $70,000 per year. We've also been told Trump is a narcissist, which explains everything blfenton posted. The die was cast as soon as the Electoral College put him in power, and there should be no expectation of his personality disorder driven behavior changing anytime soon....See MoreUser
