Have to renue my drivers license today

I hate the vision test. They make me try without my glasses first which is senseless. My left eye is the worst so I try to cheat & close my left eye & see if I can pass. But they got smart a few years ago and the machine blocks my left eye so I can't cheat.

Not that I want to anyway. Finally after they see that I need my glasses to see, they let me put them back on for the rest. Then my ugly picture time. Yuck!!

And they've raised the price. It's $27.50 now. Goodness gracious.

Although I sympathize with the woman, I hope she didn't get the help she was looking for. Do we really want to put a vision-impaired person behind the wheel?

4 years ago this nice lady asked me to memorize the letters in the eye exam for her so she could pass. I told her I have a bad memory & will have hard enough time passing myself. Bless her heart.

It surely gives you a lot more freedom, Nicole ... you'll need it, with the little ones. Can Claude get to work by transit, leaving the van at home during that time, or do you have to drive him and pick him up, on a day that you may want to use it? I've been surprised, over the years, at how many, mainly females, can't drive. My mechanic's wife Chris was a teen in a congregation where I ministered, 40 years ago. Her Mom, who lived on a farm several miles from the village and the city, had never learned to drive. A while after her Dad died, a few years ago, I said that I thought that I'd go visit her mother and get her out on the road to learn to drive. She warned me to not ... as her aunt had made a similar suggestion, to be told to mind her own business, if they were to remain friends. ole joyful P.S. I just stumbled over a rock ... that's so large that it's a wonder that it didn't hit me in the face ... ... remembering my recent dilemma over the need to re-confirm my driver's licence ... ... maybe I'd better consult with Chris' Mom ... ... as to how to manage to live in the country ... when one can't drive! Maybe, even at this late date, it might be possible for me to learn something! o j

the license I got in 2005 was disgusting...We were moving that day and the temp was 104...I realized at 345 my license was expiring that day so ran over there and because they made me wait longer than 30 minutes I got it free and got a 10 year license...no makeup, sweating, it was AWFUL and they wouldn't let me take another picture. I was so relieved last year when I could get a new license...I had makeup on, my hair was done and I was ready...I barely had a smile as they don't want a full out smile, (same with passport pics, they sent my first one back and made me redo pictures!) I'm ok with both, at least they resemble me!

Sorry guys. I was spending a fair amount of time on my laptop on Saturday and was catching up on some discussions on this side. I'm a regular/frequent contributor on the Kitchen Table and the Cooking forums. I was browsing here and this discussion piqued my interest. I mentioned my post about the Nissan Cube with the Rubiks personalized plate. I smile when I see it. Also, there are quite a few personalized plates here (Ontario) but they're also a $200 ticket item. I'd never pay that.

When my mother was 86, she'd had an illness where her doctor had asked her not to drive 'temporarily'. When she was well, he told me the HMO lawyers wouldn't let him give permission for her to drive again even though he felt she could. I can be her worst critic, but also her biggest defender and arranged for her to be evaluated (cognitively and driving skills - the evaluator went out with her behind the wheel and rode with her, much like an initial drivers license test). He said she would have his blessing to drive if she would take two brush up classes for driving. Brush up ;0) She'd never had a lesson or test, she'd bought her license at the corner drugstore in Kansas for something like 50 cents. i.e. She didn't know, had never heard, two hands on the wheel and drove left handed for her evaluation. But - she took the required two classes at her own expense, passed with the instructors recommendation and resumed driving. In her city of about 38,000 and not on the freeway. Two years later she sold her home, car, moved to independent living in a city of more than 600,000 and its traffic where she didn't have the confidence to drive. That time it was her idea, and worked out fine - we didn't have to have the 'time to give me your keys talk'.

I'm sure you'll do fine, paw. Many people cannot pass the test without glasses.

DMV renews mine automatically through the mail; cannot remember last time I had to go in.

Yours is less expensive than mine. I just paid $32 to renew my driver's license here in GA. It is good now for another 8 years. Had to take lots of paperwork with me: birth certificate, marriage license, SS card, and two utility bills in my name showing my address.

I guess I should be happy PA makes it easy. I've had my picture taken a couple of times over the years, but that's about it. I renew online.

I would love to only pay $27.50, or even $32. Mine is $114.00, in Seattle.

In Ohio we go every 4 years. I wish we could do mail in or go 8 years. Ohio is very behind the times on everything so that won't happen here.

My husband's licence renewal arrived today. The cost will be $90.00 Cdn. It will be good for 5 years. He does not need a new photo - they will move his last one over to the new card.

Mine had to be renewed a couple of months ago - as did the licence plate since the car is in my name- that was expensive too. I wish now I had renewed the plate for 2 years rather than 1 year since shortly after I paid the fee it was announced that plate registration is going up so I would have been ahead of the game. I just didn't want to give our Ontario premier more of our money to throw away.

I wish I had done mine online. The new photo on my license is shocking! If I get stopped I'm going to hand them my old license hahaha

Washington state has no individual income tax and so other taxes and fees tend to be higher than in other states. Same is true for its relatively high sales tax.

Wear contacts. They let you keep them in. I'm restricted to contacts and glasses. No way would I drive without them.
