DD&I have "kinda" vanity plates. There's a Bison emblem on the left, followed by numbers, I suppose it's the order of when a person ordered their Bison plates. The PSYCHOTIC devotion to the Bison up here is amazing!!! Why yes, yes I am psychotic as well!!! Maybe.....I should've said "as HELL"?!??!

There's a couple of NEW cement-mixer trucks up here, all decked-out in a stud Bison paintjob! Half the city busses have huge decal wraps, etc.

Like Faron, I have a college alumni plate on my everyday car. The extra money goes to a scholarship fund. Mine is just numbered like his, but it can be personalized. Because of the logo, it's limited to 5 characters which is not much for creativity so I just leave the number.

Of course, the Mustang has a vanity plate! I don't want to post what it is, but Mustangs are pretty much known for vanity plates. Maybe someday if I ever get a Shelby I can request SXYSHLB.

I was going to get it for my truck, it would read NEET C. But I ended up geting a large decal on the back of my truck window that reads "Betty". I call my truck Betty-but gas station attendants always call me Betty. I think when I finally get a new vehicle I'll get the personalized plate.

Years ago DH wanted to get BRDBTH for birdbath for his work truck-as he made birdbaths, but it was taken! I have seen a lot of people use numbers in place of letters when some personalizations are taken.

We have special plates that you can get just numbered or personalized, and the proceeds do go to special causes-I know we have a cultural trust-fees go to the arts, one with salmon-to protecting watersheds, one for the Beavers, I don't know if I've seen the Ducks. Our plain state plate is pretty neat tho-it's white with an evergreen tree on it.

I can't do Oakley in case someone I know lives here. I have to be incognito.

I don't have a vanity plate because I cannot ever come up with anything clever. One time I saw my first name on someone else's car, so I know that is taken. I wouldn't want my name on it anyway. I saw one that said "AYADOIN" and another that said T42 24T. Sometimes I have to drive behind someone until I can figure out their plate. And no, I am not getting Dedtired on my plate!

I had a vintage green convertible MG and considered "Sprout" for a plate. (But didn't do it. too silly for a British car.) I also ignored suggestions of "TOPLESS"

My BIL's brother had UNKNOWN once. I thought that was clever, especially if he got stopped. My DH got our son 12XLR8 for his first car. Sadly, he did exactly that way too often. He should have had the Unknown plate! We took the car away.

The paperwork came in today so I think I have 30 days. I'll need to fill out a form and come up with several ideas in case one is already being used.

All my car ownership life, I've kept the same randomly issued plate number. It is well-ingrained and memorized.

Now that I'm moving states, I'm wondering if it will be worth it to request that same number when I apply...

We live on outer Cape Cod. It's mugged with tourists in the summer. There's a car I see frequently year round with a "vanity" plate that says GOAWAY.

No vanity plates for this girl. I can think of better ways to waste my money. My husband has to have vanity plates.

In 2002, I was pining for a baby. I only had one and it was in 1987. I really wanted another baby. But my son was 15, my marriage was rocky, so it was not to be. And I was sad. It was the first time I thought about my age and decisions I had blithely left to fate. And for the first time in my life, I felt deep regret. Even though my marriage was reaching it’s end, my DH wanted to cheer me up. He brought home a bright yellow 2-seater convertible. The plates said “BB Car”. Baby car. It was a sweet effort on his part. It wasn’t my daily car until recently. About five years ago I accidentally let the registration expire and chose regular plates. BB Car always made me miss that baby that never was.

While I appreciate Fun2BHere's vote of confidence, I'm probably the last person to ask because I made such a dumb mistake when I bought a vanity plate for my DH years ago. We had the tofu business at the time, and he delivered a lot of it himself in his Suburban. Without going into details, the plate I chose didn't project the message I had in mind at all. It was so obvious, but I didn't see it until he had been driving around with it for awhile.

I was going to suggest Oakley too, but you've already rejected it. If you have privacy concerns, you won't be able to tell us what you finally decide. Sniff . . .

If I were doing it for myself, I'd want the plate to reflect something I felt strongly about. When I was a breastfeeding advisor, LLLEAGUE would have been good. These days, I might use my ham radio call sign, as someone mentioned above. Or I'd love COP CAR for my '92 Chevy Caprice. You said you love birds and butterflies. BUTTFLY would probably not be a good choice. lol

Do you have a favorite bird? One that doesn't have too many letters? ORIOLE? WAXWING? How about WINGED?

What kind of a car is it? That might play into it too.

Don't worry about your sons. If they decide to keep the plate, you can assume they're not embarrassed by it.

I've also seen bible verses (book, chapter, verse) on plates. If I remember I go home and look it up. Interesting.

How about someplace you'd like to live? Hawaii? Island? Mountains? Lake?

I like the garden. How about "FUNGUY"?

I have the feeling you'll enjoy the plate more if you come up with the idea for it yourself. It'll be more meaningful.

I'd be cautious about CUTTING. I'm currently reading a novel (Defending Jacob--excellent book) that mentions porn sites devoted to cutting (with knives). Cutting of oneself can also be a symptom of emotional disturbance.

In Virginia, you can do it online, so you will know immediately if what you want is available. It will show you what it will look like as well. You can just keep trying until you find one that is not taken. I can't believe OK doesn't have the same system. It is so easy.

Cyn427, the Virginia system is super easy! Plus they had (or maybe still do) a very small surcharge for vanity plates, so they have a lot of them.

Sorry guys. I was spending a fair amount of time on my laptop on Saturday and was catching up on some discussions on this side. I'm a regular/frequent contributor on the Kitchen Table and the Cooking forums. I was browsing here and this discussion piqued my interest.

I mentioned my post about the Nissan Cube with the Rubiks personalized plate. I smile when I see it. Also, there are quite a few personalized plates here (Ontario) but they're also a $200 ticket item. I'd never pay that.
