You'd still have to dig the 100 holes, though, it would just be easier to dig. Is the soil there the usual concrete-like dirt? If it is, a tiller may be in order (if you've had the utility company check for gas and power lines),

do a trench, as long as necessary, insert plants in desired spots and fill dirt around them. goes a lot faster than 100 holes.

Most landscape designers don't plant in soldierly rows, it's pretty unpleasing.

BE SURE that you call your Call Before You Dig number found HERE. You will need to have all of your underground utilities marked before you do any digging.

Whether you need to till or not depends on your soil. Either way, you'll need to dig a hole 100x.

Not that it matters, but I'm planting in diagonal rows, which is a common planting scheme and pleasing to the eye.

When planting daffodils by the hundreds, I used to be concerned about the stiff "soldier style" that might result from planting in straight line, but not any more. When my plants grow, some bend a little, some are bigger, some sprout sooner than others, so the plants have NEVER looked as inflexible as a soldier line. And once they start multiplying, the rows completely disappear. So these days my priority is fastest way to plant and doing a trench is it. Can do 500 bulbs in 1hr.

The hardiness of the plant (or bareroot in some cases) could be a help, too. Liriope should transplant pretty well at this time of year with an almost "don't care" attitude of sticking the plant in a hole and covering it up a bit. Don't need to be too slow and careful at all.

Also, the smaller your root ball, the easier it'll be.
