Comments (2)Gritty mix.. Equal parts of each Fir Bark or Pine Fines 1/4 - 1/8 in size. ( no dust particles) Turface MVP or Allsport.. ( screened for dust! Napa floor dry part #8822 is a good substitute if you can't fine Turface... Granigrit ( growers) or Cherry Stone size 2. Remove dust. Here is a pic of mine. Hope this helps!! Comments (18)I don't think anyone is denying that contacting members directly by email for personal reasons can have its benefits:-) But not everyone is equally willing to give up that degree of privacy, either. And unless I am reading something different, I didn't get that the OP was attempting to impart info other than what was in response to poster questions. So why not do it here on the forum where everyone who is interested can participate and benefit? btw, I've linked to DG numerous times and so have many other posters. Comments (14)I know this thread is several years old, but... Al, you mentioned that one could replace both the peat AND the perlite with unscreened turface for a 5-2 mix, is that correct? I just ordered a ton of gritty mix components but also need to repot some blueberries and dwarf bananas, which I was going to do a 5-2-1 or 5-1-1 mix for. If I can do a 5-3 or 5-2 (bark-turface) mix that would be much easier with the materials that I'll already have on hand. [Plus I also hate dealing with peat moss when it goes hydrophobic, which happens quickly in my arid climate, and the way perlite floats (and then blows away in the crazy Arizona winds) also drives me a bit nuts.
