Trying to save money on energy bills in winter

I started a few discussions in other sections, but I thought to make this a comprehensive question please. I am looking to use a house in the winter that previously was only used in summer. There are 2x4 exterior walls with fake paneling, no sheetrock. I am replacing single pane windows and redoing insulation on exterior walls with sheetrock. I was all set to put in ductless efficient electric in the main living room, but the fireplace had to go and I thought to put a propane stove on the hearth. There is electric baseboard heat currently. Which option will I be spending less money on heating the house? Also looking at ceiling fans for high ceiling.
