Pendants Paired with 7.6' Island and 9' Ceilings

Our new kitchen will have a 7.6' island (including overhang) and 9' ceilings in an open floor plan, closely resembling the layout pictured below (built from the same floor plan) but white with cabinetry extended several feet along the back wall. What size pendants (height and width) do Houzz designers recommend for over the island? Would chrome pendants 14.25" W x 23.5" H be too overwhelming?

Generally speaking, you get a circle of concentrated light directly below a fixture that is about four feet in diameter, and the light slowly dissipates from there. To that end, going with two pendants ought to suit the needs of the island, though you might consider a third to illuminate the important walkways.

The dimensions of the fixtures largely depend on how you intend to use the island. Are we just preparing food on here, or are we also sitting and eating here? If you're going to be doing any sitting, fixtures nearly two feet in height might be a bit much. Something in the neighborhood of 16 inches should work well.

If you're open to suggestions, we have a huge variety of fixtures for settings just like this. I'm personally partial to our Lighthouse ceiling light with a polished aluminum finish!

There is a formula it goes something like this: Measure the length of your island/table in inches. Example: 60" wide Determine how many pendants you want and the diameter of each. Add them up for a combined diameter. Example: 3 pendants with an 8" diameter. Combined = 24" Subtract the combined diameter from the length of the island. Example: 60" - 24"= 36" Add 1 to the number of pendants. (This accounts for the space between each pendant and the ends of the island) Example: Since its 3 pendants, this number will be 4. Divide your subtracted value by the number of pendants. Example: 36" ÷ 4 = 9". You’ll want about 9" of space in between each pendant.

it really depends on the size of the pendants or chandeliers you are sourcing first before i can give you an educated answer on how many and height. I will get you started by suggesting that you could 2 small chandeliers or large pendants (approx 25"-30" diameter)* or 3 medium pendants ( 15"-20") And typically anywhere between 32"-36" for hanging height. *assuming island is wider than 40"

This is like asking which earrings work with my outfit but we don't see the outfit. Show us the kitchen please or at least the drawings from the designer . I like statemnt lighting BTW I do not care how many pot lights you have unless that are above the island you still need good lighting there .
