How many chairs? I like your selections but wonder if those chairs will actually go in very far under the table - looks like the front of the seat might run into the "table legs" below where they cross, even if straddling the wood. Or the chair seats might run into each other at the front corners if you're using 4 chairs. If you can't try them in person, I'd measure those things carefully.

4 chairs. I plan to try them in person. They have the table in a store. The sales associate said the chairs stuck out a few inches with a 48" table top.

Oh, the table looked much smaller than 48". I think they look great; the chairs are comfy looking and stylish.

Not sure I like the mixture of woods on the table and chairs, especially since you can see them through the glass. Also, I think with the glass top, it's going to look like a mish mash of legs when the table isn't being used, Are you sure you want the maintenance of a gas top table (I know there are glass top table lovers here)? The rugs go well together, but I'd also think twice about a rug under the dining table.

I like the chairs, but don't care for the table.

Actually I don't use the dining room much. The glass doesn't concern me - it is replaceable and I grew up with a glass top table. If I have company I'll use a tablecloth or placemats. I found some placemats I love at crate and barrel and tried them out on their halo table and they looked amazing. Then when I went back to evaluate the table, the chairs stood out too far from the table.

I might use the table with my laptop, but I'll put something down to protect the glass and I might use an office chair instead of a dining chair.

I like the idea of glass over wood because the floor is dark wood. I like the transparency of the table because I will want to see the wall unit through it. I like the idea of the rug because the rug I have there now really brightens up the dark dining room, and the wood base will be separated from the wood floor, and there will be protection for the chairs. (Felt adhesive pads collect dog hair.)

I would be open to other tops besides wood. They have a smaller copper top and a smaller marble top. The cool thing about the table is that is is just a base, and I can change the size and material of the table top. I'm just not sure if I like the X shape.

And I agree about the mish mash of legs. I'm trying to find simple chairs. Or a simple base, but the pedestal tables tend to look either really traditional or really cheap. I have a modern aesthetic.

I think your choices are handsome, but as someone else said, be sure to see what the table looks like with the chairs under it. The rugs should be fine together. I wouldn't worry about a rug under the table, especially if yours is outdoor. I have a wool one under mine, have grandchildren (and adults) who spill and really don't have problems. Lack of a design will, of course, show more stains, but yours has texture to hide some.

After further research, I have learned that the problem is the chairs, not the table. Most parsons chairs I looked at have around an 18" width and 24" depth. This means that you need at least an 18" square of space in the middle. Four chairs would need 5.5'. I have 8', which only leaves a 15" clear walkway plus a few inches if I angle the chairs, about 6" less than I currently have.

I might try to look for different chairs. Maybe I can figure out a way to reengineer my current table which fits 3 chairs underneath all the way. (It's a 3 legged table, beautifully made in Italy, but the inner top is damaged.) It would need a new top, legs reshaped, refinishing. I can seat up to six at that table so that may be a way to go.

I wonder if I could get a glass top, paint the back, and lay it on top of my existing table. Then maybe I could find chairs with round-ish legs to go with the legs on my table - they are rectangular with half cylindrical bottoms.

Rather than painting the back of the glass to use with your current table, you could have it sand-blasted. It would be opaque and hide any damage underneath it. Buy Starphire glass as it doesn't have the green tinge of most glass.

Alternatively, if you don't need a dining room table, why not put a narrow rectangular parson's type desk in that room and use it as an office. You could keep stacking or wooden folding chairs in a nearby closet for the rare times you wanted to use it for dining.

I like the style choices very much, but feel the chairs should be a bit darker...?

I think I'm going to get the halo round table and khaki upholstered parsons chairs from cb. They'll take up a little more space than what I have now, but I tried the combo out today and it was really nice, especially with all my tableware combinations.

I'll probably finish remodeling the rest of the open space before I buy, unless they have a sale.

Table = casual, chunky and rustic

Chairs = semi-formal, slim and modern

Together they look strange to me. I'd go for more casual chairs or a table that's not so chunky.

I'll probably end up with this combo, even though it takes more room. I've loved this table ever since I tried my placemats out on it. (I have the placemats in a few colors - lower left pic is my blue placemat.) The circles intersect the center of the table in a really nice way. Not sure about the rug but I'll probably get something similar. Chair upholstery is fabric.

I need to place the chairs diagonal to the rug so the don't get in the way, and so they have more rug room.
