pull-out hidden cutting board.
Comments (12)I currently have partial overlay cabinets with a breadboard. I think the same thing would work with full overlay. The drawer front is split. The top few inches are attached to the breadboard and the remainder of the drawer face attaches to the real drawer. The board and drawer operate independently. The doors in this kitchen all have that undercut finger pull space which full overlay won't, so you'd need a handle, but it should work. I wouldn't do it with light colored cabinets, though. Mine are light and it looks like the drawer front is split (which of course it IS). I don't think it'd be very visible with darker cabinetry....See MoreAfter market pull out cutting board/shelf
Comments (2)We had one made by the cabinet company that did my 2003 kitchen. They used a metal channel that they screwed into both sides of the cabinet. It was "u" shaped. Then they inserted the cutting board and slid it into the U channel. In the picture below, it looks like the cutting board is nicely held in place by the cabinet frame. It was not, since the board inside the cabinet was free to move up and down until the u-channel was placed there. An old boyfriend did something similar with an old 1950s TV cabinet with doors over the picture tube. Where the TV went, he made shelves for my stereo components. He used cove wood molding trim. With one side of the trim glued and screwed to the cabinet, the other flat side formed a little ledge to put the shelf on. By putting a second cove molding above the shelf, he made a full-length track for the shelf to slide into. Doing this in your cabinet would be a simple weekend job. The hardest part might be getting a cutting board the right size to fit into the cabinet, unless you have power tools and can make it yourself. Comments (13)I'm mostly looking for something side mounted. Thought I could have that set up with the second container for extra garbage bags.......I plan to use a bathroom wastebasket under the farm sink. Bathroom wastebaskets are pretty small but it won't be a big deal to take it out every day or two. That's likely all that will fit?? Anyone know? If you have a farm sink, can you measure the door height for me? Maybe I will have to put it somewhere else. plllog, if I search for Blum hardware I might find this? I did see one at rev-a-shelf for a hundred bucks. I'm thinking I can make one for a lot less. Unless the drawer slides are more than I think. It does feel good to be down to garbage placement and light fixture refurbishers though!I remember when floor plan #1 looked good. Now I am on either #5 or #6....See MoreDumb question about pull-out trash cans!!
Comments (12)I considered moving the trash to a different cabinet that is smaller, but I really want to keep it near the sink. (although it is currently located under my cooktop and I actually really like it there!) And I can't deduct 3" from that cabinet and add it to another because of where it's located (between supersusan corner cabinet and sink cabinet) The space will be completely divided by a wood partition from top to bottom, front to back, so I hope that garbage doesn't get in there!! However, I really only wanted to keep serving trays in there, which I don't use all that often and would probably rinse off before use anyway. Badgergal, that's exactly what I was thinking!! Was it difficult to get the trash hardware placed on the door exactly where it needed to be so that the door would fit into place correctly? That's my concern...especially since the doors are inset. I'll probably leave this for my contractor but I kind of need a plan in place to know if I should order an unattached door for that cabinet (to attach to garbage) or a regular door that opens to the side....See Morepractigal
