If you blog.... what do you use to blog?
Comments (8)This is off subject, but Thyme2dig would you mind telling me what your mom's blog is called. We changed computers and I lost the name of her site. I have so enjoyed it; she has a great way with words! I lost several others too, so if anyone has any recommendations for garden blogs besides Hayefield and Grounded Design, I'd appreciate some names. I'm actually more of a dreamer than a gardener so I really appreciate your pictures everybody, and your sharing of your experiences!! Thyme2dig, I remember the Blue Heron part, but that didn't help me in the least when I tried to google her blog......See Morei need to name two plants ......

Comments (6)I didn't spend a lot of time researching alternatives, but I use Blogger...it's provided by Google, and it's free. Your blog's address will be your_blog_name.blogspot.com. I found it easy and straightforward to get started, though I am still learning and tweaking my design. You can: (a) keep it completely private so that only you can see it - mine was private until last week, or (b) make it available only to people you approve, so you can limit access to your family and friends, or (c) make it open to the public, which also allows it to show up on web search results I haven't seen anything about posting limits; I've seen blogspot blogs with hundreds of posts and photos and thousands of comments, so I am guessing that if there is a limit, it must be pretty high. You can upload photos directly from your computer, or you can post a link to your photos at an online photo service like Photobucket. Hosting ads to earn income from your blog is optional; you won't make any real money from them unless your site gets lots of hits. Since it seems that just about everyone has a blog these days, most blogs aren't going to get many hits...otherwise we'd all be doing nothing but reading each others' blogs all day! Fair warning: if you're privacy-minded, bear in mind that Google will be collecting as much personal information on you as possible in order to "personalize your Google experience." Translation: make money off you every way it can. (However, if you already have a Google account for any other purpose, Google already has a fat file on you already, and the blog won't give them much more information.) If you want to see mine, it's linked below. I'm a total blog noob with a messy garden and a point & shoot camera, so please don't expect a showy professional blog. (There are no ads, so I am not pimping my blog for hits, either.) I'm just linking it here so you can see what you can do using Blogger and a few hours of spare time. Comments (14)We did it!!! After reading all of your suggestions about security, coding and plug-ins, etc., I realized that I was in way over my head technically! I emailed Nephew and offered to pay him to fix and finish this for me. He was so sweet and told me that he'd be more than happy to do it, and no way was he wanting any payment for it. He's such a busy guy, with his job, new house and a great wife. As I mentioned earlier, he was so sweet to help me start this back in December, and I've been trying to finish it up on my own ever since then. But WordPress had me so confused! Anyhoo, I told him what you all suggested and he fixed everything for me! And when he went back in yesterday to make the changes, he said that he was really impressed with what I'd done with the blog and that it looked fantastic. I am so relieved and happy that he likes it, as he does this for a living, working for some tech company in Denver. He told me that he's had to go in and fix or help companies and individuals start up their own websites and blogs and mine is the nicest he's ever seen. And so, many thanks for helping me with this. I am very, very grateful. Our clinic's blog website is now ready for our patients and I can breathe again! Lynn...See Morecyn427 (z. 7, N. VA)
