'Keitt' is a Florida selection which has become one of the worldÂs most outstanding mangos. Excellent eating quality, disease resistance, productivity, and ripening time are some of the features of this four to five pound goliath. While the fruit are extremely disease resistant, the juvenile trees are extremely difficult to grow due to disease problems. For that reason we have suspended production. The fruit ripens from August to October. 'Haden' was the first superior mango cultivar selected and named in Florida. The flesh has a full sweet flavor, and it is of excellent eating quality. The fruit is eye catching having a deep yellow base with a crimson blush. The tree is a vigorous large grower with an open rounded canopy. The only problems it has are disease resistance and a tendency to have "jelly seed". The fuit are susceptible to spotting caused by fungus, and they tend to ripen from the inside out becoming slightly soft around the seed. The Haden remains an excellent variety for anyone that has the space for a medium to large tree. The fruit ripens from June to July. Great price you found! Lisa

Where I'm located, the nam doc mai produces the most and best mango's. Pure goodness. The mallika also produces well, but I have not totally figured out when to pic them and I think I'm letting them go a little too long on the tree. The glenn is solid all around and the carrie is decent, unfortunately they both got totally wiped out this year with the cold. The cogshall is good and held up pretty good to the cold, but its still a little guy. The Choc Anon is trying to hold on to a couple of mango's, so we'll see. I'm hoping for the elusive winter season..? I still have not tasted one of them. As for my local factors - I have sandy soil and I do not get much rain until June. Jan - Apr is pretty dry, with May bringing in around 4 inches or so. Even though so far this month its has not rained??? For the late season mango, I think I'm going to go with the Neelum, however I'm still undecided on the early season mango...

Brooks is actually the second oldest mango to be named in Florida after Haden. It was a Sandersha seedling. It is *probably* the parent of Keitt and its a parent of several other Florida cultivars including Kent. Its a decent producer but fairly average flavor-wise.....its fairly mild, has a little bit of fiber.....its progeny have proven to be better mangoes. Its main 'value' is that fact that its a late-season mango and there aren't as many late season cultivars as early season, but Keitt, Valencia Pride, Lancetilla, and Palmer are all better than Brooks,imo. I think it may be for that reason that some older commercial groves have sold them green.....and it is generally only found in older groves. There are some plantings in Homestead and Merrit Island. Interestingly there is a 'Golden Brooks' mango cultivar which I haven't tried before. Perhaps its an improvement on its parent like 'Golden Lippens' was.

Hello, Can anyone suggest a Indian type mango variety that may grow well in inland Los Angles area with planting zone 10b: 35 to 40 F? Is it true that either Kent or Golden Nugget are Indian type variety? Are they compact in size? Thanks!
